After Saving Him, I Became the Demon Lord’s Possession 7

Chapter 7 – After All, Your Dao Partner Is Me

By Lappas EngermanPublished 5 months ago 6 min read

Luna had imagined countless times what kind of person her tribulation partner would be.

When she first read about him in the book, she thought he was a pitiful soul abandoned by the world, even feeling a twinge of compassion for him.

But when she finally saw him in person, she realized he was far from as fragile as he appeared.

Later, in that mountain cave, when she saw him during a poison flare, she decided he was sly, unpredictable, and deeply calculating—someone who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

At the time, she told herself she could understand. After all, he was merely trying to survive.

But now, she thought, this man is a lunatic.

Luna’s gaze fixed on his fingers as they rolled a string of prayer beads.

Long, slender fingers, joints well-defined, skin pale and smooth—yet with the coarse calluses of a sword wielder pressed into his fingertips.

Chi Su had entered the Buddhist path without shaving his head. After becoming a lay disciple under Master Mercy, he still carried a sword everywhere, practicing swordsmanship day and night, through summer heat and winter frost without pause.

With such dedication to the sword, there was no way he didn’t covet the Baize Divine Sword.

“I have the gift of foresight,” Luna said suddenly. “I can help you.”

Chi Su’s fingers paused for the briefest moment.

“You don’t have to bargain with the Underworld Lord, and you don’t have to seize the Sword of Slaughter. If you want revenge, I can help you. If you want the Baize Divine Sword, I can help you with that too. Most importantly—you will live. You’ll live a long life, and no one will ever dare bully you again.”

“Help me? Live a long life?”

He gave a cold, dismissive laugh, clearly unimpressed by her rambling.

“I’ve already helped you twice, haven’t I?” she said earnestly. It was, after all, part of her mission—so it wasn’t exactly a lie.

“Your surname is Chi, your name Su—bestowed by Master Mercy. ‘Justice may be delayed, yet your heart remains unwavering.’ He hoped you would grow into a righteous cultivator who would protect the cultivation world, not a bloodthirsty killer wielding the Sword of Slaughter.”

Chi Su rose to his feet, pressing her own sword’s tip against her throat.

“Those first words, you might be able to lie to me about. But the rest? Any novice monk in Fanyin Temple could tell you that—”

He gave her a careless smile. “Why should I believe you? Give me one reason not to kill you right here.”

As if expecting this question, Luna answered immediately.

“Because I will protect you. Everything I’ve told you—I’ve already seen it in my dreams. And in those dreams, we grew close, became Dao partners, built a home together. That’s why I came to find you.”

She said this with a calm face and steady heartbeat. It was part of her mission anyway.

As for “Dao partner,” that was just a little trick to tie him to her—because this was a man destined for great darkness, and if she turned her back for even a moment, he might fall into it.

Besides, she had always kept herself pure and proper. Her life might have been as lonely as a frog in a well, but there was no harm in a little bluffing here—especially when Chi Su was prettier than she was. It wasn’t like she was losing anything.

At her words, Chi Su froze. Something stirred in the depths of his gaze; his expression turned oddly complicated. He raised a brow at her and pressed the sword harder against her neck.

The power of a demon soul was not to be underestimated. Luna grit her teeth, enduring the pressure as Tianyu hummed furiously within her spiritual sea, trying to break free of its restraints.

What the hell is this guy’s true form? she cursed silently. Don’t tell me he’s some arrogant fox spirit!

She had already sacrificed her dignity, yet he still didn’t believe her. What now? Should I just attack?

But the moment the thought crossed her mind, a jolt of electricity punished her.

【Warning: Violence is not an acceptable method to deceive the system】

Luna: %@…

You damn dog of a system! Whose son is he to you?!

She sighed and let her eyes drift to the prayer beads in his hand.

“If I’m not mistaken, those are a truth-reading artifact. You can use it—see for yourself if I’m lying.”

The beads, called True Word, could read thoughts. They had been left to him by an old monk before his death.

Chi Su’s thoughts stirred, and a faint halo of light wrapped around Luna.

Her heart clenched in mild panic. Everything she’d said about changing him was true. As for being Dao partners—well, even a nominal partnership counted, right?

A moment later, the light faded.

The answer he expected never came, leaving him in a strange, uncertain mood.

It was like waiting for death in absolute darkness, only to hear someone whisper, There’s another path you can take.

For the first time in his life, he felt something akin to hope.

He found himself wondering how far she would truly go for him—and what Lingjian Peak was really after.

But he was born suspicious, cautious by nature. Her few words were far from enough to sway him.

Seeing his hesitation, Luna pressed, “Well? Chi Su, will you come with me?”

“Dao partner… I’m not interested.”

He sheathed his sword, a small gesture of goodwill.

“But your offer is tempting. As for the Sword of Slaughter—I will take it, and you’d best not stand in my way. Otherwise—”

The door suddenly burst open.

A blast of cold wind swept in, carrying several blurred red shadows that leapt forward like lightning. Chi Su’s wrist flicked, his sword slicing to block them.

The moment the pressure on her eased, Luna summoned Tianyu. The sword burst free in a flare of icy light, striking down one of the red shapes.

“Betrayal… betrayal… kill them all…”

“Shadows… shadows… eat people… eat…”

The creature that hit the floor had a human face and spoke human words, but its legs were like a deer’s, its body covered in red fur, with a single bald tail swaying behind it.

Luna had sliced off one of its hind legs, but it still writhed desperately.

“What the hell is this thing?!” she blurted, her scalp prickling as she instinctively moved closer to Chi Su.

“Shi Ying Beast,” he answered.

Before he could say more, a sharp, lilting laugh rang out. Both of them turned toward the doorway.

“Chi Su, is this your idea of sincerity?”

A stunning woman in a crimson wedding gown stepped into the room. Her makeup was flawless, her hair coiled high beneath a golden phoenix crown that made her beauty even more dazzling—like a peony in full bloom.

Her presence was commanding, and behind her stood several demonic cultivators, each one a Nascent Soul–stage elder.

“What’s this? You’re about to marry me, yet you’re still entangled with another woman?”

Luna froze for a heartbeat before the system chimed in:

【Underworld Lord: Si Yin. Level: Feathered Transformation Realm】

So this was the Underworld Lord—the strongest being in the ghost realm, and a mighty cultivator of the Feathered Transformation stage.

Luna muttered under her breath, “Really? You’d sell yourself for a sword?”

Chi Su tilted his head, giving her a sidelong glance before looking at Si Yin.

“My lord, the agreement has yet to take effect.”

“Then perhaps you should remember something.” Si Yin raised a hand, and the red Shi Ying Beasts immediately stilled. “This is my domain.”

Chi Su let out a soft “oh,” his face utterly calm. “Is the Underworld Lord planning to break our contract?”

“Break it?”

Si Yin stepped closer, the gold-embroidered scarlet of her robe trailing behind her. Her gaze locked on Chi Su, naked in its possessiveness.

She had long heard of the Moon Demon clan’s gifts—but they had been wiped out centuries ago. She never thought she’d be fortunate enough to find one again.

And remembering the Moon Demon’s… unparalleled talents in certain areas, Si Yin’s desire deepened.

What was a contract compared to this?

For a thousand years, no one had dared bargain with her. Before, she’d been willing to play along, to “cultivate feelings.” But now? Hardly necessary.

A slow, throaty laugh spilled from her lips as she brushed her blood-red nails against her cheek.

“The burning of Fenjing is not pleasant, is it? If I recall, you’ve already turned seventeen. The only thing that can save you… is in my hands. If you won’t come to me for it, will you go begging to this mere Nascent Soul–stage girl?”
