Chapter 6 – God Loves the World. I Only Love Killing.

Ding—

The moment the ghost cultivator finished speaking, Luna heard the system chime in her mind.

She didn’t bother to trade insults. With a flick of her wrist, she stuffed him—quite literally—into one of the row of urns lining the roadside.

New Mission: Stop the alliance and prevent Chi Su from obtaining the Sword of Slaughter. Complete this mission to proceed to the next task. Reward: 500 Tomato Coins + 1 random Mystery Box.

Luna closed the mission interface, her mind rippling once again.

“Query favorability value,” she ordered.

Current target favorability: 0.

Luna: “...”

She cast a spell, separating the ghost cultivator’s soul fragment, and slipped into the City Lord’s mansion.

The mansion was built grand and imposing, its beams soaring high, flying corridors bridging the pavilions. The main hall rose so tall it seemed to pierce the clouds.

Perhaps because the ruler of the Underworld was hosting a wedding today, the place bustled with life. Every ghost wore a wide, dazzling smile—though each looked like they’d donned a painted mask.

Luna circled once but couldn’t find the entrance to the main hall. She pinched the ghost cultivator’s soul fragment and asked, “How do I get in?”

A moment later, the weak voice came: “This humble one has no right to enter the main hall… but, immortal lady, you can go through the servants’ quarters—”

Luna narrowed her eyes. “Fine. But if you lie, I’ll crush your soul.”

“Yes, yes! I wouldn’t dare…” he babbled. “Just keep walking west until you see a mirror—”

West?

That was where a rock garden stood.

Luna’s eyes narrowed further. Spiritual light gathered at her fingertips, brushing over her eyes.

The illusion shattered. The graceful palace dissolved into a grim, ancient city.

Still holding the ghost cultivator’s soul, she strode westward down a narrow passage. Sure enough, at its end stood a dark, dull water-mirror.

“And then?” she asked.

“Cough… face scan to enter.”

Face scan? So advanced? What next, a health code check?

This ancient city might be eerie, but it was lavishly built, full of winding corridors and layered pavilions.

Luna vaulted onto the roof of a tall tower, hiding in the shadows to look down.

The City Lord’s estate was like a city within a city, sprawling so far she couldn’t see its end.

Fortunately, the main hall blazed with light, high enough to be easily spotted. If the ghost cultivator was right, the banquet should be over by now, and Xie Chenlan should have returned to his quarters.

She leapt down, moving toward the main hall.

By the time Luna approached, she was dressed as a maidservant.

Following a line of maids, she carried towels, scented soaps, and lotions in her arms, walking quickly.

“Luna, what luck!” Tianyu’s voice rang cheerfully in her spiritual sea. “We’ve stumbled right into the group serving Chi Su!”

Luna glanced at the maids carrying red wedding robes and accessories, feeling a twinge of worry.

What troubled her wasn’t meeting Chi Su—it was how to convince him to leave with her. Saving him twice didn’t mean he owed her his life.

They stopped before an exquisitely decorated hall.

A pale-faced ghost cultivator stepped forward to whisper to the head maid, “He just killed someone… it was Young Master Xue, whom the Lord recently took in.”

“What? What does the Lord mean by that?”

“Best not to provoke him. The Lord won’t pursue it—as long as he’s willing to stay, that’s enough…”

The head maid nodded gravely and led the group inside.

Luna kept her gaze straight ahead, stepping in with the others, kneeling, and raising her tray high.

Before her lay a floor covered in thick, snow-white beast fur, soft as the first snow of winter.

If one looked closely, faint traces of blood still stained the boards beneath, dark blooms in the shadows.

Incense burned in the air, faint sandalwood mingled with the tang of blood.

She glanced up. A strikingly beautiful youth lounged lazily in a chair, wiping down a sword.

His eyes were gentle, a string of white jade prayer beads looped around his wrist—but his focus on cleaning the blade was absolute.

A Buddhist cultivator, wiping a sword? The sight was jarringly strange.

He was barefoot, his pale skin showing faint blue veins, a thin jade ring circling his right ankle.

The head maid noticed Luna’s wandering gaze and shot her a glare. Luna quickly lowered her head.

The maid stepped forward. “Young Master Xie, we’ve come to prepare you for your bath and to change your attire. Would you—”

“Leave.”

Chi Su’s voice cut her off—clear, cold, and distant.

“This…” The maid hesitated. “But the Lord instructed us— the auspicious hour is nearly—”

Chi Su chuckled softly, tapping the sword’s edge with one finger.

“The agreement isn’t in effect yet. The Underworld Lord wishes to force me?”

A crisp hum rang from the blade, killing intent spilling out.

The head maid paled. Remembering the warning she’d been given earlier, her knees nearly buckled.

“Yes, yes, Young Master Chi, we’ll leave right away—”

Luna: ???

She hadn’t even had a chance to stay, and she was already being sent out?

No way—her mission wasn’t done. She couldn’t go.

So, when the others rose to leave, Luna stayed kneeling where she was.

All eyes turned toward her. Even Chi Su’s gaze slid her way.

Her “plan” was simple: knock everyone out.

She was just about to summon Tianyu to do exactly that when—

“Wait.”

Chi Su rose, sword in hand, and walked toward her barefoot.

Luna saw his pale feet sink into the fur before his robe hem hid them from view.

He stopped before her, studying her for a long moment.

She was debating whether to knock him out too when the cold tip of his sword touched her neck, the gleaming blade reflecting her wide apricot eyes.

Then, in a calm, detached voice, he said:

“You stay.”

The head maid froze, but didn’t dare argue. She set down her tray and hurried away with the others, closing the door behind her.

Luna thought, Wow, they really hope I get killed.

Now, only the two of them remained.

Luna knelt, looking up at him, while he gazed down at her.

He was tall enough that she couldn’t read his expression—or perhaps there was none to read.

His hair had been freshly tidied, loosely tied with a jade ribbon.

The original texts described Chi Su’s looks as otherworldly and serene, with a beauty beyond gender. Now, at just seventeen, he was like a flawless jade carving—too refined for words to capture.

They would’ve made a harmonious picture, if not for the sword at her throat.

Sensing her danger, Tianyu trembled violently in her spiritual sea, unable to break free.

“Luna!”

Luna ignored him, cleared her throat, and said, “Um… could you put the sword down first?”

“No.”

Luna: “…”

His eyes curved faintly as he leaned closer, looming over her with visible curiosity.

“You’ve been following me. Why?”

“To save you.”

Her answer was crisp. She meant it—she had saved him. Twice.

Chi Su’s expression flickered with surprise. He considered, then asked, “You’re not wrong—you did save me. But why?”

“To lead you toward kindness, to let a lotus bloom in your heart.” Luna carefully pushed the blade aside and grabbed his arm. “Chi Su, come with me. I’ll teach you to cultivate immortality.”

He glanced down at her hand and smiled oddly.

The smile was hard to read. To Luna, it looked as though she’d just told him a ridiculous joke—or something that utterly disgusted him.

“Kindness? Immortal cultivation?”

He shook off her hand, crouching so their eyes met.

“How pitiful.”

The words came out of nowhere. Then, he pressed the sword forward.

The cold tip pricked her skin, drawing a bead of blood.

Luna frowned, cursing inwardly.

She was in a mortal body—pain was real. Her eyes brimmed with involuntary tears.

“Does it hurt?”

He stabbed her and then asked if it hurt? This guy was definitely a deranged little brat.

“I don’t wish to be a god,” he said.

Sheathing his sword, he rolled the prayer beads in his fingers, his smile gentle as a statue of a benevolent deity.

“God may love the world… but I do not.”

“I only love killing.”
