Top 6 Books of 2024 so far
A mild review of my favourite books of the year (part 1)
It's September, y'all. Almost through the year. I find once summer is over the rest of the year is over. But luckily reading helps to deal with the transitions.
I love to read, and I highly encourage everyone to do so as well, in the age of too many digital distractions, testing our attention span, for quick likes and follows and views.
However of the course of the year, here are some books I've read & listened to, that I think you may enjoy as 2024 draws to a close. Part 2 is coming next.
1. "The woman in me" - Britney Spears.
I’ve always wanted to sing and dance because of her. In this book, you get her perspective. And the fact that she doesn't narrate her whole audiobook, should tell you something about how traumatic is it to relive some of her past experiences. We are so quick to judge at times, because their famous and rich, and shouldn't have problems. But beneath it all, there's always heartbreak, struggle, wins, fighting for love, that at times, the media can't capture accurately. Because all they want, is a picture at the expense of another humans' privacy and violation, all for the money. It's a job I'll never understand, nor would I ever justify it. All that to say, it just gives you a different perspective on her life. Try reading it, it might open your mind on the behind the scenes of a famous person.
2. “The wealth money can’t buy” - Robin Sharma.
OK, I've been a huge fan of him since the pandemic. I read "5 am club", and I read "The monk who sold his ferrari". All great books. Those are ones that are on my bookshelf. This one though is his best one yet. It offers up ideas and thoughts in which to balance your life with other things that money can’t buy. For example, having 3 great friends, working on obtaining good health, spending time with your family. While it's not dismissing the idea of having money (it's one of the forms of wealth), it suggests that building other aspects of your life, will make you just as wealthy, that is not equivalent to money. It's so good. I’ve read it at least 4 times because it's also very easy to get through. You might finish it in a day.
3. "You are badass at making money” - Jen Sincero.
I’ve read this one over the pandemic, but I find myself referring to it, whenever I need some support or ways to change my relationship with finances and money. Because it's all connected. The way you view money is the way you receive it, and the way you think about your life also impacts the money you can make. It's funny, it's do-able, but it’s also work. And the rest is up to the universe. Highly recommend, if you want to manifest more money into your life. But you have to do the work and show up for yourself and know your WHY behind making X amount of money. Because at the end of the day, we all deserve to be wealthy and share our wealth with others:)
4. "It was your along" - Russ (Listened to his audiobook).
He’s a self master at his craft, which is rapping, writing, mixing, engineering and releasing music. Now he's dabbling into fashion and books and hair products. He's all about manifesting the life you desire. He's been making music since 2011, and only started getting recognized by 2018. Can you imagine? Putting 7 years of work, consistently, with a goal in mind and vision of who you want to be?
I’ve been following him since 2019, and his musical journey. There's another book he wrote it's called “It’s all in your head”, bright and yellow, you won’t miss it. I suggest reading that one first and then the second one. What I enjoyed about both books actually, is that his songs are linked in accordance with his chapter. So for example, he has a song called "Pull the trigger", which implies, taking a chance, taking a risk. And that song corresponds with the chapter about risk taking. It's quite neat actually. You might like it.
5. "Seven Spiritual laws of Success" - Deepak Chopra. (listened to the audiobook)
If you want to live your life with a little bit more intention and purpose, this is the book for you. I love Deepak Chopra, and his teachings, so I am a little biased when it comes to this, but see for yourself. Your life may change a little bit, day by day.
6. "Tuesdays with Morrie" - Mitch Albom.
This book is probably the most touching and deep one, that I've read in a long time. It was published in 1997 (the year I was born), so i took it as a sign to read it. It takes you through a relationship between this student and professor, even after the student has graduated. The student comes to find out that his old professor, is in fact old and has a disease that at the time (in the the 90's), had not been able to be treated. So they have these sessions (on Tuesdays), talking about life, family, until the very end of Morrie's life. In it, is pieces of wisdom, on what society values, and what you should value. How to enjoy your life a little more. For it's time, it was really wise and insightful. *Spoiler alert* you might cry at the end.
Hope y'all enjoyed this. Feel free to suggest other books I may have missed, I am always opened to learning and getting my hands on new material. Part 2 is coming next.
Happy September. Chat soon. x
