THE UNEXPECTED DETOUR
A story of Love and hate

Ava and Ryan had been sworn enemies since their freshman year of college. She thought he was an arrogant jock, and he thought she was a snobby bookworm. For years, they had managed to avoid each other, but fate had other plans.
Their college's alumni association organized a road trip for graduating seniors to explore the Pacific Coast Highway. Ava, who had always wanted to see the breathtaking views of Big Sur, signed up immediately. Ryan, who had just gone through a rough breakup, decided to join the trip to get his mind off things.
As fate would have it, Ava and Ryan were assigned to share a car for the week-long trip. They were both horrified.
The first few days of the trip were tense. Ava and Ryan barely spoke to each other, except to argue over music, navigation, and whose turn it was to drive. Ava found Ryan's constant joking and teasing annoying, while Ryan thought Ava was too uptight and serious.
But as they drove through the stunning landscapes of California, something shifted. They started to notice little things about each other – Ava's quick wit and Ryan's kind heart. They began to talk more, sharing stories and laughter around campfires and over diner breakfasts.
One night, as they were walking along the beach, Ryan turned to Ava and asked her why she had always seemed to dislike him. Ava was taken aback by the question, but she decided to be honest. She told Ryan about how she had felt intimidated by his popularity and athletic prowess in college.
Ryan listened intently, and when Ava finished speaking, he shared his own story. He had always felt pressure to live up to his family's expectations, and Ava's seemingly perfect grades and academic achievements had made him feel like he wasn't good enough.
As they stood there, watching the stars twinkle over the ocean, Ava and Ryan realized that they had misjudged each other all along. They apologized and forgave, and from that moment on, their trip became a journey of discovery – not just of the beautiful landscapes around them, but of each other.
By the end of the trip, Ava and Ryan had become unlikely friends. As they stood at the edge of the Grand Canyon, watching the sunset together, Ryan turned to Ava and asked her if she wanted to grab coffee with him when they got back home.
Ava smiled, feeling a spark of attraction that she hadn't expected. "I'd like that," she said.
As they drove back to campus, Ava realized that sometimes, the people we think are our enemies can become our closest friends – or even something more.
