The Story Behind “Saving Joshua.” Exposing Domestic Violence and PTSD from the core
Book 1 in the Cedar’s Port, Thriller Romance series
I’m a multi-genre author and mental health blogger. I’ve always written stories about people who are affected by trauma. I do it to raise awareness of how trauma affects more than just an individual, but an entire community.
The thriller romance novel; Saving Joshua came to me over time. I have come to know many trauma survivors who have fled from truly awful situations. Among them, are parents who flee for their lives to give their children a better future. A life in safety, away from abuse and harm.
Saving Joshua is a work of fiction to celebrate those who have the strength to change their lives and start again. There are many survivors of traumatic events, who are alone in desperately precarious situations of life and death, and yet manage to escape.
Jennifer’s character is resilient and strong. She is a believer in her ability to escape from her cruel husband’s horrific temper, and controlling narcissist ways.
As is often the case, Jennifer hit her final ‘straw,’ which pushes her to escape for the second time. She reaches out for help and this time there is no going back.
Traveling back to aunt Brie in Cedar’s Port, opens another painful truth for Jennifer. She has no choice but to go, in order to save her young son Joshua, from being harmed by her husband.
Cameron’s character is a veteran Navy SEAL, suffering from PTSD. He has lost all hope of love, and exists without purpose where he buries himself in work.
Jennifer and Cameron meet by chance, and the two of them discover something in each other that neither had anticipated. That even broken hearts can be mended and find a way to live again — after trauma.
Meanwhile, Jennifer’s ex-husband is hot on her tail with deadly vengeance on his mind.
There are many single parents out there, who are working hard to keep their kids safe from violent exes or other situations.
There are many veterans who return home from war, changed by the trauma they’ve endured.
I wrote this story for them.
There is always hope.
Happy reading!
