The Story Behind “Guarding Noah” Book 3 in the Cedar’s Port series
Shining a light on rape and kidnapping
Behind the writing of Guarding Noah
I’ve always been observant of my surroundings, and I love watching people — without watching them in a creepy way. I pay attention and file away snippets of conversations or situations as I go about my day.
I have two kids, and we love the outdoors, whether it’s our local park, mall or hardware store, there is always something to see and explore. It doesn’t have to be mountain hikes and swimming holes to be exciting.
Wherever we go, there is always media broadcasting 24/7. As much as I try and shield my kids from the most gruesome atrocities of our world — trauma happens everywhere.
Guarding Noah is the third book in the Cedar’s Port series. Grace’s story came to me over time. Grace’s character is based on strong survivors who are driven to succeed despite having lived through trauma.
The book deals with kidnapping and rape as well as the aftermath where a community has to come together to help the victim and family.
Trauma doesn't just affect one person. It ricochets throughout the community similar to the stone thrown into water and there is a ripple effect.
Guarding Noah also shines a light on veterans arriving home after serving and adjusting back to society. It’s not easy to arrive home when the world has “seemingly” moved on. Veterans need our help and support.
At first I was going to write Guarding Noah from Navy veteran, Will’s point of view, but the more I wrote the story, the more Grace’s character came through. I also bring in the villain’s point of view throughout the story.
Meet Grace — a talented doctor intern with a bright career ahead of her. One night, tragedy strikes when a case of mistaken identity changes her forever with a secret to guard with her life.
A notorious drug cartel returns to Cedar’s Port after a few years, looking for a young boy. At the same time, Grace is determined to protect her son, Noah, from a monster.
Meet, Will — an SWCC veteran from the US Navy. He’s locked away his heart after arriving home injured, only to find his girlfriend in bed with another man. Now he is just interested in driving boats, and keeping a low profile. Then he meets Grace, and everything changes.
A tropical storm strikes Cedar’s Port. Noah goes missing and nobody has seen him. Can Noah be saved before he is lost forever?
Will has to call in all his favors to save Noah before the cartel reaches international waters. A huge Navy operation ensues, with Will taking point.
