The Atlas Trilogy

A confusion Six different ways

By Hannah ElliottPublished 10 months ago 4 min read

The Atlas trilogy comprised of Atlas 6 Atlas complex and Atlas paradox is an interesting yet very confusing story following six people in this magical world figure out things. Honestly that's all I can give you because that's really all that is taken away from the series in reading it. It's not that it's poorly written the writing is very good it's just way too complex and confusing for a trilogy. I don't think that having six narrators and six different point of views really work in this case and also when you go from one person to the other it's not always a direct continuation of the same storyline it kind of bounces between people making it extra confusing follow as you're constantly going back and forth in the story.

This trilogy is one that does a reverse for me because normally I find the first book is just exposition and it's kind of like boring and then the second one is like really good and then the third one is the best one but in this case it was the opposite I found the first one to be the best of this series and the second one was like OK it started to get pretty confusing trying to follow the storylines with it and then by the third one I'm honestly just lost. Like what was happening in the third book I couldn't really figure out how it connected or pertained to the other two and it felt almost like a completely other story like a prequel to the first two books to kind of explain more background as there was another character introduced so you're getting the story told to you from a viewpoint of like 9 different people at one point which is just way too many to keep straight.

It also felt as though the story just took like a dive after the second book like it was kind of supposed to only be a duology and just end on this cliffhanger but the author decided to kind of like keep going with it and see what she could come up with and she like was just scrambling to find ways to make connections like the entire third books plot point could have been summarized in like 2 to three chapters where basically everyone's just turning on each other and trying to like survive it wasn't exactly like a clean way to wrap things up and it still didn't even wrap up that cleanly it was just left in this place of confusion I thought.

For the length that these books are which is between 4:00 to 500 pages it doesn't make sense for me to feel this clueless about character development and the plot point when I've read close to 1500 pages of this story. Like I almost feel as though I need another book in this series to kind of have a better understanding as to what's going on and how things are ending but there isn't like it's done.

I've heard from many people with this series that it's just the last book is confusion but they were saying how it might have been because like they read the first two books and then put the series down for a while to pick up the third book and got confused by everything but like I read the second and third book back-to-back remembering what had happened in the first book and I'm still confused so there's definitely something missing to make it make sense or it's just a book that's not really for me which I think is the case. I enjoyed the style of writing but like I said the main issue I had was just there's too many characters being presented and not enough time to get a good understanding of them each and then it just is continually changing how these characters are acting and not letting us really get a story from each of them like when a chapter is 10 pages long told to you in the point of view of someone and then the next chapter is somebody else talking about a different experience it just really doesn't flow well in the second and third book in the first book it went really well because it was very surface level what the plot points were and it wasn't overly complex I feel like the more complex that the plot tried to get the more confusing it was trying to follow so many characters. I think that it would have really benefited this book if as it went on either the chapters got longer and you got more out of each character per chapter or if there were just less characters divulging their point of view I think that's where the author really trapped herself and the fact that she had to maintain this six person view and then she decided to add two more people into it which I just think made it even more confusing really.

I can't say that I would recommend this series to people I mean if you're OK and can hang on for such sudden shifts in the narrative then go for it but I mean like I even listened to the audio books for it and read alongside it and I was still slightly confused so I mean maybe it just needs something else I'm not sure but at the same time like the writing is still good and I still give props to the author for making the series, it just seems like it needed a second set or third set, I don't know how many people reviewed this but, it needed one more person to have an objective review of it and be like hey this can be confusing to people and I think we need to change some things.
