Crescent City - Trilogy
Urban Day Harry Potter? Eragon? Something

Compared to reading the other series of Sarah, this one in quality is still the same as the others with a great storyline full of twists and turns, but the only issue that I had with it was the length. Which I feel is what most people feel like with this series. That there should’ve been a fourth book, make the third book into a two parter.
The story itself is a great one. It kinda reminds me of like Eragon (minus the dragons) mixed with the modern-day vibes of Harry Potter? Like the world being ruled by a unfair ruler, but with magic and powers that could not be explained like Harry Potter.
I think what has people “upset” about this series, which I don’t understand, is that it’s a more urban telling of the fantasy stories that we are used to having. Most of the stories in this genre, we are so used to having them be set in an old time where the weapon of choice is swords and not guns. There are no phones and it’s not like the world we know now. Personally, it was a welcomed change.
All the characters, the layers that each of the main characters, one who you follow throughout the trilogy are all so well thought out and every moment planned so carefully which I appreciate. I do not really get how people say that the Bryce from the first book is not the same as in the last to which I say well duh. All the truths that she learns along the way definitely shapes who she is and what she is going to do. To me it seems like a natural progression, one where her end goal is never lost and her willingness to sacrifice her own life to save everyone she loves and the world she loves no matter how messed up it is.
I had no issues with the first two books, though because they led somewhere else, I wanted more from them which is just how a series works. But the last book is the one I had some slight problems with. 1. The length. It was a very long (though very good) book, but it felt like at some moments things were rushed, and I wanted her to take more time to expand this out. 2. The moments with the Fae from ACOTAR, though I really loved the crossover, it either needed to have more to it and have them become more in the story or less. Like the middle ground of where it was left, it just felt like a let down almost compared to what it could have been, having Nesta join in battle or something. 3. The timeline, the whole thing done in a week? Come on at least give me 2-3 weeks for this all to take place and not seem so rushed. That was the main thing, the pace of the book was so quick that it felt like things could have been easily missed.
These things, however, did not make the series not something that you should not read it. The payoff and satisfaction of how this trilogy works is so well done. I would say that ACOTAR should be read before this because then the surprise in this series would be more impactful since you know who they are. I will also note that the audiobooks for all 3 of these books are wonderfully done. I found it very enjoyable to read along while listening to the book as well, it makes it feel like you are fully immersed in the story and it is more a movie being played since it is taking over more of your senses.
Overall, it isn’t the greatest thing I have ever read in my fantasy journey but it is still very well done and worth the time that it takes to get through them. Which isn’t very long.. the largest book, the last one, took me all of 3 days to read.
