Plot Summary
In Royal Flush, which is a novel, the main, or central character of the story is the lady Georgiana, also referred to as Georgie – and she’s not short on mystery in another murder either. Georgie is a young woman who has literally cheated death a few times in London and decides to go to the family home castle Rannoch which is based in Scotland. The castle itself is beautiful but on the other side it is a never ending source of a monitory nightmare as well as domestic dispute. On her way into the castle, she learns the royal family and the Prince of Wales is to spend their holiday in Scotland making the task even harder.
This Georgian woman is expected to take over the responsibility of tending to the prince and his friends who cannot be described in any other way than a group of mischief-loving scoundrels with nothing better to do than cause as many ruckuses as possible. Some activities start to happen in reality which are essentially attempt on the lives of the royal family members. Since the above cases are escalating in the level of dangerous jeopardy, it is quite clear that someone is plotting the annihilation of the successors to the British throne. Main plot revolves around the action, where Georgie decided to learn more about a man who attempted to murder her husband beside coping with her workday and the role of a status-conscious wife.

Characters
f indeed I was inclined to quantify the attributes of “Royal Flush,” I would presume that sustaining one’s equanimity when it came to numbers and the number of characters proffered and honed in hues and humor would be a benefit. The heroine is easily portrayed and thus rather familiar – Lady Georgiana is an average British noblemen’s daughter, raised in a large family, who is thrust into the family business; however, the story is not purely one of weakness, frailty and incompetence, as Lady Georgiana is presented as a particularly bright woman who knows and fights her role assigned by her arrogant kin rather well. Important hormonal and financial issues which Li Na faced, and the attempts of searching for one’s personal place in this world being just a beautiful princess.
They include Erstwhile MI6 tech expert, the show’s most attractive character, protagonist Rex Matheson, Tom Price, informal Irishman Darcy O’Mara, a known criminal, and the male lead’s girlfriend, on and off, with Georgie Kirk. Of course, this series and specifically the “Royal Flush” of this week has a primary view to the business with Georgie and Darcy which to some extent are easily the most appealing elements of the whole story. The relation between two characters has been depicted humorously where two are in conflict but, they respect each other and hence, listeners wish to listen to both of them.
Other main characters are Binky who is clumsy brother of Georgie as far as appearances are concerned, and Fig who is the wife to Binky and appears mainly in the funny scenes during the multiple crises. Other characters in the novel are Queenie, who works as a maid for Georgie and she is also an utterly ridiculous character, a clumsy lady which gives rather nonsense pictures to the incidents of the novel. That is why Queenie is not perfect and the character frees the comedy in the movie and in general the plot is somewhat cute.

Setting and Atmosphere
The atmosphere of “Royal Flush” is highly developed, which envelops listeners in the picturesque and sometimes severe world of Scotland. Castle Rannoch is shown in its magnificent state, but at the same time with all the signs of ruin and this gives the story a type of ambiance it needs. Realisms of the castle, the moorlands, and the village within which portions of the novel are set are well established, which interrelates with different aspects of fascination tinged with terror.
The incorporation of examples of products that were popular in the past is one way Bowen has paid attention to history in the novel. The prologue to the 1930s is integrated into the framework of the plot very successfully using the setting in terms of societal norms, fashion, and language. This contrast emphasized by the fact that the events of the movie take place during the era of the Industrial Revolution, and the royal family appears to be completely oblivious to the economical hardships of the common man.

Narration
It is therefore significant to positively note that Katherine Kellgren has done a great job in narrating “Royal Flush”. How Again, the presence of Scottish and English accent in the movie seen in the aristocratic flavor of Georgie’s dialogue, as well as the different Scottish tones she imitated so well made the movie colorful and interesting. Kellgren, playing all the male characters of the show, is quite energetic and uses a wide variety of tones and voices to make the difference betwixt the characters in the show.
Kellgren’s voice is well-controlled throughout the pacing and intonation of the novel thus making the listener to follow the story between the two families throughout the novel. She proves excellent timing for the funny moments: episodes with Queenie’s falling or Fig’s arrogant declarations. Kellgren’s narration is a bonus for audiobooks, and thus, this audiobook is highly recommended for fans of the series and potential listeners as well.

Themes
Several aspects can be identified to relate to the listeners in “Royal Flush”. Some of the reoccurring elements include; One of the main themes is the fight for independence which is depicted by Georgie. Unlike most of her kind, She dreams of living her independent life fully aware that it will not be very easy for her which she fully shows through her strength in dealing with all the hardships that come along the way. Her story represents the growing change of the culture that women of that generation began to demand more independence and job opportunities.
Another potential theme is also the focus on loyalty and duty of citizens in the society. Also, the duty towards the family and country is the major motive for Georgie’s actions and higher goals in life. Thus, Daldiera’s determination to find the truth and shield the royal family at the cost of her life proves her guardianship and courage.
Another significant theme that can be discussed is the confrontation of traditional values with the tendencies of the post-modern world. The characters of “Royal Flush” work and live in a society that is in transition, and the conflict between the traditional and innovative concepts is the primary focus of the narrative. This oppression is demonstrated through such conflicts: the conflict between the elderlies who still hold a strict value system and the young generation who does not hesitate to bend those rules.

Humor and Wit
The author’s humor is well incorporated in a book and this makes “Royal Flush” by Rhys Bowen as quite enjoyable. It may not be heavy or profound but the use of wit and comedy in the talking as well as funny incidents and, last but not the least the satire on the elite society adds humor to the work. This element show the writer Bowen’s prowess in the manner in which she shifts from humor to suspense.
The comedy aspects of the novel are also greatly complemented by Kellgren’s reading style. This makes the audiobook even more enjoyable to listen to because she gets the jokes right, and delivers them well.

Mystery and Suspense
Most importantly, however, “Royal Flush” is a mystery novel, and as such, Bowen sustains the readers’ suspense. The series of mishaps aimed at the royal family builds up suspense and urgency, making the audience sit on the perches of their throat. Bowen does a good job of planting, and misleading items and hints that keep the story properly mysterious until the last pages of the book.
The amateur investigation conducted by Georgie is realistic and ‘fun to read’. This makes her a realistic and rather inspiring heroine, as she is not afraid of the dangers and commits everything to find the truth even if she has her flaws. The denouement is good; the writer explains how different elements of the plot are connected and brings the story to a good and unexpected conclusion.
