My List of 5-Star Reads from My Goodreads Account

Just a list I got off my Goodreads page

According to my Goodreads profile, I've read over 400 books.

Am I impressed by this number?

Maybe.

But my to-be-read pile of books staring at me makes me think this number is not enough.

(Although I also think it's more than 400+ as I never logged in books I read before I found Goodreads - and that's a whole 20 years of backlog!).

ANYWAY...

I wanted to share my top favourite books with you. Let me know if any of these are your favourites, too?

Fiction

When my brain gets too tired of work and I want a reality that it isn't mine.

More often than not, I come across fictional stories that swallow me whole and make me feel like I belong in that world, or at least, I want to.

Sometimes I even dream about those books days after I finish reading them.

I don't always give books five-star ratings (I'm stingy, like that), but when I do, I think they're amazing enough to share.

Here are my favourites:

  • 1984 by George Orwell

This one's clearly a classic. Fictional but also made me feel like you're reading about a world so real and so close to you.

  • Have A Little Faith by Mitch Albom

I'm not one to cry when reading books or watching movies. But this book required some tissues. Such a heartwarming read. Actually, all Mitch Albom books are my favourite!

  • The Sialkot Saga by Ashwin Sanghi

This book took me by surprise - I got it at a book fair and thought it would transport me to the Indian diaspora. It took me a while to get to this book as it is 500+ pages long and I'm not one with patience. But I found myself turning pages. The drama, the relatability, the over-the-topness, I was hooked.

  • The Great Passage by Shion Miura, Juliet Winters Carpenter

This was one of those books that tugged at my heart because of the love of words. As a writer, I found this book very close to my world.

  • The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams

One of my more recent reads, The Reading List is an easy read for book lovers. It speaks to those who try to get others to read and fall in love with the world of reading but it also has a lot of feelings about relationships and more.

  • Perennials by Julie Cantrell

I could not stop thinking about this book after I finished it. It's a heartwarming, sweet read that brings about a lot of emotions that family members, who don't necessarily think alike, go through. Must read.

Non-Fiction

I honestly don’t read that many non-fiction books.

Mostly because I do a lot of reading for the texts I have to write for work and by the time I want to read, I want something fun or far away from my reality.

But the non-fiction books that I picked up have always taught me something more than the other.

Here’s a list of my 5-star reviewed non-fiction books:

  • On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King
  • Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
  • Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah
  • The Courage to Be Disliked: How to Free Yourself, Change Your Life and Achieve Real Happiness by Ichiro Kishimi, Fumitake Koga
  • Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain
  • The Difficulty of Being Good: On the Subtle Art of Dharma by Gurcharan Das
  • Expert Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Creating a Mass Movement of People Who Will Pay for Your Advice by Russell Brunson, Robert Kiyosaki (Foreword)

I have a few more of each but these are the most notable mentions.

I read 1984. I would like to read T. Noah's book, I find him interesting and a little on the rebellious side. So cool. Good luck on the journey.

  • Oh wow, the only book that I've heard of from both your fiction and non-fiction lists is 1984 and I've not even read that, lol. I don't use Goodreads so I don't know even approximately know how many books I've read 😅😅
