MEANT TO BE

Chapter One: The Escape

By Hillary OdhiamboPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

The moment I saw Velma, I knew that something was wrong. I had just come from work when I saw her crying. Her ever -soft and supple lips were now filled with saliva. Her top was wet in tears an indication that she had been crying for a long time. I immediately dropped my briefcase ran to where she was and hugged her. " What is it, my love?" I asked.

She continued crying and wailing more. Her tears now flowing down my chest. "Talk to me hon. What is the matter?" I tried all I could to calm her down with minimum success. This is not the Velma i have been dating for six months now.The one i know is an iron lady. A lady who is able to withstand all life challenges. Not those weaklings and cry babies you guys have as girlfriends and wives. No! She is far more different than those

Slay queens you guys date. Something must be the matter and it must be something big! Otherwise, what can make such a strong lady cry?

Just then Velma opened her mouth to talk. " It is Dad he wa..." I couldnt wait for her to conclude her statement. " Is Everything Okay? Is he sick? Is he..." "MY DAD WANT ME TO MARRY BRAVIN!" The seven letter word sounded Greek to me." EXCUSE ME". " My Dad wants us to break up. He has ordered for the death of whatever we are sharing in the name of love." She continued spilling the beans even after realizing the impact her words were bringing to me. Even though my Grandmother has always told me that the tears of a man aren't supposed to be seen no matter how tough the circumstance, My tears started making their ways in twos. I bit my lower lips.

" Darling, I want you to know that I have always loved you and will forever love you. There is no one and absolutely no one who can get between the two of us.Never on earth am i going to get married to that monster of a thing called Bravin. Not even over my dead body!" I firmly gripped her hands. We firmly hugged each other none of us willing to let the other go. I could feel her heart spasmodically pumping blood to the rest of her body."Hillary I love you and I am ready to fight with my dad just to keep us together." Her words inspired me to want to keep her all by myself.

I am not going to lose such a beautiful soul to the likes of Bravin. Not when I am alive. I am ready to fight to the last drop of my blood just to keep her."Let us flee away from this country. Perhaps start life in Venice and sire our kids there."Bravin and his men suddenly bulged in my apartment. Go pack our belongings, honey, Our flight starts now."I told her as I unbutton my shirt ready to face Bravin and his men. " Okay Sweetheart, and please be fast," she left to the bedroom.

What followed is despicable. I can hardly encapsulate to you how it all went. The only thing I remember is that after fifteen minutes, Bravin and his men were reeling on the floor with too much pain. Blood could be seen oozing from his mustache."let's go darling." And off to the city of Venice.
