Making Indian roti, also known as chapati, is a simple process. Roti is a type of unleavened flatbread that is commonly served with various Indian dishes. Here's a basic recipe for making soft and delicious Indian roti:

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)

Water (approximately 3/4 to 1 cup)

A pinch of salt (optional)

Ghee or oil (for brushing, optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour. You can also mix in a pinch of salt if you like.

Gradually add water while kneading the flour. Start with about 3/4 cup and adjust as needed.

Knead the dough well until it becomes smooth and soft. The consistency should be pliable and not too sticky. If it's too dry, add a bit more water; if it's too sticky, add a little more flour.

Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes. This helps the gluten to relax and makes it easier to roll out the rotis.

Divide and Shape:

After resting, divide the dough into golf ball-sized portions.

Roll each portion between your palms to form a smooth ball.

Rolling Out the Rotis:

Preheat a tawa (flat griddle) or a non-stick pan over medium heat.

Take one dough ball, dip it in dry flour, and roll it out into a thin, round disc using a rolling pin. Keep rotating the dough to ensure an even thickness.

Cooking the Rotis:

Once the tawa is hot, place the rolled-out roti on it.

Cook for about 30 seconds until you see bubbles forming on the surface.

Flip the roti using tongs or your fingers and cook the other side until you see brown spots.

If needed, you can press the roti gently with a clean cloth to encourage it to puff up. It should puff up slightly.

Finishing Touch:

Once cooked, remove the roti from the tawa and brush it with ghee or oil if desired.

Repeat:

Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.

Your homemade Indian rotis are now ready to be served. Enjoy them with your favorite curries, dal, or any Indian dish of your choice. Rotis are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
