Book Spotlight: Daughter of the Beast by E C Greaves

a Book Bloggers’ Novel of the Year Award (BBNYA) 2024 semi-finalist

By Marie SinadjanPublished about a year ago 3 min read

When the Vulkari raid her village and claim her as their own, Zyntael Fairwinter sees a dark future ahead of her. Unless she can harness the burning will within her to make her escape, she sees only misery, servitude, and despair.

But the hound-headed monsters who stole Zyntael away see a whole lot more in that darkness and that will. They see strength. They see sisterhood. And most importantly, they see hope.

As the warring Domovoi Empires turn their gaze toward the untamed lands of the Vulkari Wilds, as they seek to turn the monsters and Magicks within them into weapons of war, Zyntael will find herself faced with a choice: Seek refuge from her captors in the rigid society of the conquering Domovoi, or embrace the darkness, embrace the wild within herself, and turn that burning will towards a truer freedom than a mere escape to a mundane life could ever offer her.

Steeped in dark Slavic myth, woven in threads of hope and humour, and telling a human story with not a single human upon it's pages, Daughter of the Beast is a rich and unique fantasy coming-of-age story.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Born in the UK, but raised in New Zealand on a diet of American fantasy, Ed Greaves doesn't much mind which spelling and grammar you choose, as long as the story is good.

And when it comes to writing his own gritty Slavic folklore inspired stories, he also maintains that Grindark is not, in fact, a typo.

Hi! I'm Marie, a Filipino SFFH author and book reviewer currently based in the UK. I’m the co-author of The Prophecies of Ragnarok, a Norse myth new adult urban fantasy trilogy, and I also have several short stories published in anthologies and literary journals.

You can find more info about me and my books, and also subscribe to my newsletter for more content, here. And if you like what I do, please also consider supporting me on Ko-fi! 🩷 https://ko-fi.com/mariesinadjan

If you fancy a short read, I have a cozy reimagining of the Norse myths about Hel, but it's just under 70 pages and can be read in one sitting. ✨ Plus there's a swag kit coming soon! Includes a "membership card," a bookmark, a sticker, an origami dog, and an exclusive 500-word story 🫶🏼

All things end, and all must die.

But death is not always the end.

When Geiravor Lokisdottir was stripped of her name and cast out of Asgard, torn from her family and the life she had known, she thought she’d lost it all. But in the shadows of Niflheim she discovers the path to her destiny, and what it truly means to be queen.

This is a prequel short story to THE PROPHECIES OF RAGNAROK trilogy by Meri Benson and Marie Sinadjan, and a retelling of the myths involving Hel, the Norse goddess of death and the queen of the underworld.
