I was impressed by the fantastic stories I read before the New Year.

Right before the New Year ended, I felt that I had selected some of the best books for last. I focused on multiple genres this time around, reading thrillers, horror, sci - fi, with a little bit of romance sprinkled in. These books were the perfect way to end the year, and I enjoyed how bold each of these tales were.

Some of these wouldn't really be my type of genre to read, but I am so happy that I decided to give two of these titles a chance. The endings to each of these books was so great too, and I highly recommend that every reader check out these books!

I guarantee that you won't be disappointed by these insane stories!

Picture of five books.

5. In the Company of Killers by Elora Cook

This is one of the few young adult novels that I decided to give a chance. Picture The Godfather, but we follow the point of view of young kids during modern times. The buildup was definitely worth the wait, because while I was harboring some uncertainty about continuing to read the book, I'm glad that I stuck around.

I'm not a fan of young adult novels with heavy themes of romance, but the Mafia theme really worked in this story, and the twists and turns were executed so well!

The book did end with a cliffhanger, and while a sequel is uncertain, I think the ending is pretty both raw and realistic. In my opinion, it totally worked!

4. End of Story by A.J. Finn

This was one of the few stories that left me shocked with the huge twist in the ending of the book. It's the type of twist where you will start to have a different outlook on the buildup to the conclusion! We follow the story of a young woman who is given the opportunity to write for a writer, who was allegedly responsible for the deaths of his wife and son.

The woman is then sucked into the murderous world of the family, when another unexpected murder occurs. The family and the woman start to conduct their own investigation, to figure out who is the killer among the group!

It's another story with insane twists and turns, and the execution of the twist is perfect!

3. The War of the Roses by Warren Adler

I had seen the original film to this book, and was a huge fan of the film, due to the black comedy that takes place in the film, leading toward an ending I did not see coming! I instantly bought the book once I first laid eyes on it, and I finished reading the book in just three days!

We follow the story of a couple named Jonathan and Barbara Rose, who lead happy lives for a long time, raising two children together, in their big fancy home. Once Barbara asks for a divorce, Jonathan loses his mind, and the couple literally go to war, determined to drive each other out of the house.

The couple was willing to go beyond their limits to get rid of each other, including attempted murder!

2. H.P Lovecraft Tales of Terror

This was a short horror story collection that is now become one of my absolute favorites. While not every story wasn't the best, some of these stories were powerfully written, fully embracing the heavy themes of cosmic horror that Lovecraft is known for!

It felt so awesome to finally get to read Lovecraft's most popular work. So many of his stories is now my favorite when it comes to the genre of body horror. It also felt awesome to finally read Lovecraft's version of Re - Animator, a film that has become one of my favorites in horror.

1. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

I now consider this novel to be my second favorite among the genre of sci - fi/horror. I can't say that's better than the movie, since I believe both versions work in their own ways, but this is the closet we will ever get to a Rated - R version of Jurassic Park.

The dinosaurs in the novel are terrifying on another level, and the book really focuses on how hungry these bastards are. No mercy is shown to children or adults, each of the kills are awful, and every single person who is caught by these beasts suffers before death.

I guarantee fans who love the film are going to love the book!

Stay tuned for another future article of book recommendations! I'm now working on another batch of five new books for you guys to check out!
