For Billy Joel, it all began with “Piano Man.” The song was written and recorded by the American singer and songwriter Billy Joel. It is featured on his 1973 album of the same name. The song is based on his real-life experiences as a lounge musician in Los Angeles, California. The song became his first major hit and signature song. In 2013 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

“It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” was written and recorded by Joel and is featured on his 1980 album Glass Houses. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became Joel’s first number one hit in the US. The single achieved Platinum status from the RIAA.

“I’ve Loved These Days” was written and recorded by Joel and is featured on his 1976 album, Turnstiles. The song is of a man’s farewell to an unsustainable lifestyle and of Joel’s real-life move from Los Angeles to New York during the creation of the album.

“Just the Way You Are” is a song recorded by Billy Joel and featured on his 1977 album, The Stranger. It became his first US Top Ten and UK Top 20 single as well as his first Gold single in the US. The song topped the Billboard Easy Listening chart. Joel received two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

“The Longest Time” is a doo-wop song by Joel and released as the fourth single from his 1983 album, An Innocent Man. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went to number one on the Adult Contemporary chart. The song features Joel on lead vocals, all backing vocals, and percussion sounds.

“My Life” was recorded by Joel and is featured on his 1973 album 52nd Street. It charted on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

“New York State of Mind” is a song recorded by Joel and featured on his 1976 album, Turnstiles. The song was never released as a single but became one of his most covered songs. In October 2001, Joel performed the song at the Concert for New York City, the benefit concert for members of the NYC Fire and Police Departments as well as the loved ones and families of the first responders killed during the September 11 attacks. He played it again for The Concert for Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden.

“Only the Good Die Young” is a song written and recorded by Joel and featured on his 1977 album, The Stranger. It was the third of four singles released from the album.

"Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)" is a song written and recorded by Joel and featured on his 1977 album, The Stranger. The song critiques the ambitions of working- and lower-middle-class New Yorkers striving for material success.

“The River of Dreams” is the first single from Joel’s 1993 album of the same name. It charted in both the US and the UK. The music video from the song was directed by Andy Morahan and filmed in Connecticut.

“Uptown Girl” was written and recorded by Joel and is featured on his 1983 album, An Innocent Man. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the second-best-selling single of 1983 in the UK.

“You May Be Right” is a song written and recorded by Joel and released as a single and the opening track of his 1980 album Glass Houses. As the opening track on this album, the song begins with the sound of broken glass. It is also featured on his Greatest Hits—Volume I & Volume II and the live albums 2000 Years: The Millennium Concert, 12 Gardens Live, and Live at Shea Stadium: The Concert.
