This begins a creative musical series of songs beginning with songs with yesterday in the title. These will be followed by songs with today and tomorrow in the title. “Yesterday” is the one beautiful Beatles song that would first come to mind. The song was written by former Beatle Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. It was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles in 1965 and is on their album Help! The song rose to number one on the US charts making its US debut on the album Yesterday and Today. It became one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music. In 1997 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
“More Today Than Yesterday” is a song that was written by Pat Upton and recorded by American pop band Spiral Staircase of which Upton was the lead vocalist. The main idea of the song was made famous in a turn of the 20th century poem by Rosemonde Gerard. In 1969 the song charted on the Cashbox Top 100 and Billboard Hot 100 charts. It is featured on the band’s album of the same name. Billboard magazine ranked it at number 50 on the list of Top Hot 100 songs of 1969.
“Only Yesterday” is a lovely song that was recorded in 1975 by the American vocal duo The Carpenters. It was composed by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went to number one on the Adult Contemporary chart. It was The Carpenter’s 11th number-one song on the chart.
“Yesterday When I Was Young” is a song that was originally a French song called “Hier encore”. It was written in the English language by Herbert Kretzmer. In English, the song became popular when it was recorded in 1969 by American country musician Roy Clark. For Clark it became his biggest hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. In 1995 Clark performed the song at the funeral of Mickey Mantle at the baseball great's personal request. The song lyrics paint a vivid picture of a bittersweet journey taking one through time with a haunting melody.
“Yesterday Once More” is another “yesterday” song that was written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis. It was recorded in 1973 by the American vocal duo The Carpenters and featured on their album Now & Then. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went to number one on the Easy Listening chart becoming their eighth number one on that chart in four years.
“Yester-Me Yester-You Yesterday” is a beautiful soul song that was written in 1969 by Ron Miller and Bryan Wells. It was recorded by American singer, songwriter, and musician Stevie Wonder. The song is featured on his album My Cherie Amour. It became his ninth Top 10 single of the 1960s. The single also charted on the UK Singles chart. Stevie also recorded an Italian version “Solo te, Solo me, Solo noi”. Later the song was reworked into an electronic version by American pop singer Jennifer Rush and is on her 1985 album Movin’.
“Yesterday’s Gone” is a song that was a 1963 hit single for the British musical duo Chad & Jeremy. It became the duo’s only UK hit. The song charted on the UK Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song became the first of eleven singles by Chad and Jeremy to chart in the US. It became their signature song,
