Why I Don't Hate "Old Town Road". Top Story - June 2019.
I'm 43 years old, and I don't hate "Old Town Road." Repeatedly, I have been told by people my age, and just a little younger, that I am supposed to hate "Old Town Road." Why? Some cite how it combines genres that they assume don't belong together, country and hip hop, or because the song is overly repetitive and meaningless. Some cite the fact that the song features the oft-derided, and rightfully demeaned, Billy Ray Cyrus as a reason the song should be dismissed out of hand.

As we near the end of the first half of 2019, I am counting down the top 10 hits of the year so far. This was a tough one as already this year has produced so much incredible new music from artists old and new. Many of these will no doubt make the cut for CMA nominations before the announcement at the end of Summer, and some I even believe may go down in history.

"You Need To Calm Down" Is Exciting
I was a pretty big #TaylorSwift fan not so long ago. Up until Reputation dropped, I really enjoyed both her country songs, which is basically where she first found popularity, and her forays into pop music. It wasn't that I thought Reputation was a bad album; far from it. I think by that point—only two years ago—I'd just had enough of Taylor Swift for a little while, as radio stations had a tendency to overplay her music.

"Death of Me" Review
I have a habit of listening to Daughtry songs that I like over and over again, and the song, "Death of Me" is no exception. However, a random thought popped into my head: I once used the song as an audio for a video edit that mainly focused on a character in a web series who is known for basically being personified anxiety. After listening to the song over and over again several more times, I found myself thinking less of the video edit itself, and more about why the song was a relevant choice of audio.

After a Disappointing Album Cycle Little Mix Just Bounced Back
Little Mix are back, and the girls show no signs of slowing down. When LM5 dropped, it felt like the girls were trying to market themselves for an American audience. Understandable, given how long the ladies have been around. Whilst they have had some limited success in the States, most of their success has been in their homeland, the UK. Compared to their previous efforts, LM5 felt like manufactured pop at its worst. It felt like the girls were singing what they thought people wanted to hear, rather than what was true to them. The best thing about the whole era is the fact that it didn't last long. Thank God they didn't try and repackage it as a deluxe edition. Can you imagine? Even the album art was basic AF. Let's just blame that whole era on Simon Cowell, and the SYCO family and move on.

Whether we want to admit it or not, much of our life and our thoughts revert back to our own existence. We worry about our purpose, our utility as human beings, and the dusty path we are on. We see the mess that we live in, the mistakes, the beauty, and a million other things with emotions and views we will never be able to fully explain. Some questions that pop into our heads are too painful to actually ask. Am I lovable? Am I going to be happy? Is this what I’m supposed to be doing? If I’ve been depressed before, will I be depressed again? Sometimes they all come unbidden in moments of weakness and inadequacy. And sometimes they simply linger in the shadows of the foreground like hidden jungle-cats.

"Hard Rock Hallelujah" Is Still The Best 'Eurovision' Song
I don't understand why they still have Eurovision. This song won for good. The end. - Sindri Guðjónsson, Youtube. "Hard Rock Hallelujah" is an anthem of praise to all the rock gods and angels. It's a perfect song for Eurovision, because it's full of character, tells a story, and makes an impact. It's also the song that made me want to go to Finland. Eurovision may be over, but Iceland's Hatari has reminded us of how epic this song is.

"One Small Voice" Review
While watching the movie Elmopalooza with my little sister, I cannot help but partially think of it as revisiting some songs from my earlier youth. Several minutes after I debate on whether I should feel ashamed for liking the Jimmy Buffett version of "Caribbean Amphibian" as much as I do, I feel pride as I am reintroduced to the song that is the subject of this article: the Kenny Loggins version of "One Small Voice."
