Inheritance and Adaptation
It’s difficult for me—as I imagine it would be difficult for any lover of music—to come up with a set playlist of perfect tunes to outline a soundtrack to my life. After all, we are so connected to the music that defines our human experience that choosing some of it to showcase as “important” invariably omits so much more that may be equally important. Of course, being a composer and sound engineer, I see the value in buckling down and making those cuts. Having a wide range of musical taste, I could give you the jazz version, classical version, punk version, music box arrangements of video game music version (not even kidding) of my life; I could give you countless combinations of the above and more. What’s more, it could refer to an aspect of my personality, a time in my life, or an overarching biographical soundtrack. I’m going to go with the full-on biography, which means it will be harder to choose the songs to represent the journey, but let’s see how it plays out!

folklore by Taylor Swift - a review
If you know me in the slightest, you know that I’m obsessed with Taylor Swift. I stream her music every single day. I can probably think of something relating to her or her lyrics in almost any conversation. And my favorite album of all time, by anyone, is folklore by Taylor Swift. This masterpiece of an album has no skips for me, it was a total genre shift for her and she aced it, and this album allowed Taylor to achieve her third Grammy for Album of the Year, making her the only female artist to achieve that award three different times–not to mention for three different genres. The first was for Fearless in 2008 (country/country-pop). The second was for 1989 (pop/synth-pop). And the third was for folklore (indie/alternative/folk). She is one of the only four artists to win Album of the Year three times–the other three are music legends Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon. She’s the only woman to achieve this milestone and she’s currently only thirty-three years old. And folklore is what got her the third win.
