"I am...World Tour" and "I am...Yours" Best concert of Queen B?
On November 12, 2008, Beyoncé released her third studio album, I am...Sasha Fierce. The album got nominated for Grammy Award Album of the year, American Music Award for favorite album soul/R&B, Echo Award for Best International Rock/Pop Female Artist, Teen Award Choice Female Artist, NRJ Music Award for International Album of the Year, and NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Album. The album peaked at number two on the Billboards on December 6 of 2008. The song Single Ladies (Put A Ring On it) peaked number one staying there for twenty-two weeks on the charts.

Cafe Improv in Princeton
Performing at places who are keen to the idea of original music is hard to find these days. Considered few and far between, when we do stumble across one, it's like finding a diamond in the rough. I've been lucky enough to find many places like this in NJ over the years. Cafe Improv is one of those places. Sponsored by the Arts Council of Princeton, the venue is designed to hold events and showcase local artists work. From artists paintings landscapes to musical artists creating soundscapes, the building resonates beauty. It doesn't hurt to have the Princeton Public Library right across the street for foot traffic, advertising, marketing, and appreciation.

Songwriter Showcase at Katmandu
This video is of me, Jim Gaven, performing an original song at local music venue and club, Katmandu, located in Trenton, NJ. Shot in 2009, it brings me back to a simpler time in life. Myspace was rampant, collecting 'friends', or as I thought of them, potential fans. I was single and was about to buy my first house. Amazing how so many things happen in 10 years. The song is called, 'The Girl Next Door' and is just about that. It's about falling in love with the girl next door...someone in your neighborhood...someone you might have went to school with. It's not about a fantasy person like a celebrity. It's about the real deal with someone in your realm of possibilities and proximity. Written in an open tuning, it is a song I used to love to play live. This is before I actually fell in love with the woman I am now married to.

Locket at 'The Bitter End'
This is an intimate live performance of a song I wrote called, 'Locket' done at a singer/songwriter showcase at the Bitter End in NYC. Even though this song was written in 2008, it is still the most requested song of mine when I perform live. The premise of the song is that it is about being there for a friend in a dire situation. This friend called me out of the blue in the middle of the night and was not in a good way. After a fairly long phone call, that lead to multiple phone calls which lead to me visiting several times within a 6 month period to eventually picking up my whole life and moving it to where they were. It's hard to capture a 10 month period into a 4 minute song, so this is my best attempt at painting a picture of what was going on in and around the experience.

My First Concert Experience Might Be My Best One.
I walked into the arena. Our seats were high up, not the best but not the worst either. I sat down and looked around, trying to take in the pre-show vibe. The air was hazy and the neon lights from the screens rounding the arena shot through it, creating a colorful mist. There were ads for upcoming shows and then banners for the current one. I had been waiting for the moment for over three months. I had butterflies in my stomach and I felt the anticipation of the arena around me. I talked with some fellow concert goers but my focus was on the empty stage below. My uncle, a concert going extraordinaire, brought me my drink. I set it down as the tequila mixed in with the orange juice and grenadine.

I’ve got to go on record here and be upfront and say first and foremost, that Prince would’ve hated this. He hated when people sang his songs; he hated corporate greed and he never involved them in any kind of concert venue, in fact, he never had a sponsor throughout his whole career. So, to sell this as a tribute to him is bullshit.
