80s music
The 80s were chockful of New Wave power ballads, synthesizers, drum machines, and no shortage of Madonna and Michael Jackson.

G'day mates! As much as my buddy Oates and I enjoy writing about the long crop of 1980s new wave rock artists and the darlings of MTV, we like to explore ALL aspects of music from the 1980s, which will indeed include artists that were still held-over from the late 1970s as the dynamic began to shift slowly, but strongly away from disco and punk, and briefly had a renaissance of the kind of music that was the mainstay of pop in the early-70's.

8EEZ Playlist: Corey Hart
Hello...I believe that's how it's said in Canada too! The spotlight is on a favorite from my buddy, Calvin "Oates" Cherry, who discovered his true identity with this next artist — Montreal, Quebec native Corey Mitchell Hart. Just Corey Hart will do, though.

Hello, I've been waiting for a reader like you. Nyuk, nyuk! My buddy Oates and I have received many a positive response for this blog series and we appreciate the feedback and certainly hope to be entertaining you with more artists' playlists — lord knows, there's absolutely no shortage!

8EEZ Playlist: Pet Shop Boys
Hello, one in all in Boogie Wonderland. Another request from my friend Calvin "Oates" Cherry is to cast the spotlight on one of the most influential new wave/dance/pop duos to come out of the UK. Neil Tennant, vocals/keyboards/guitar, and Chris Lowe, vocals/keyboards, both formed in London and derived their name from a few friends that worked at a pet shop near the borough of Ealing.

8EEZ Playlist: Duran Duran
Hello, music lovers of the world! Another spotlight by me and my best bud, Oates, is on a popular music act from the 1980s UK invasion. They were a five-man band out of Birmingham, England (the line-up has changed since) who mixed it up with glam, punk, new wave, disco, rock and yes, even hip hop, and haven't flinched ever since!

8EEZ Playlist: Tina Turner
Hello there! This is a special 'list by me and my buddy Oates. It spotlights a trailblazing woman who started as one-half of one of the most famous husband/wife duos in rock 'n' roll. After their tumultuous marriage turned to a messy (and public) divorce, this woman, who could've been washed up after her 40s, was given a second chance. Best part? A 1993 biographical film was made about her, starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne — and while she was still alive.

8EEZ Playlist: INXS
G'day mates! Gone Australian with this 'list and it's a request from my good buddy Calvin "Oates" Cherry who admitted to me that it's one of his favorite rock group. INXS (pronounced In-excess) was a band formed in Sydney composed of three brothers (Farriss), two band members, and a smoking hot lead singer who had a hot, sexual mystique to rival Jim Morrison of The Doors.

8EEZ Playlist: Culture Club
Hello, hello. Pip, pip cheerio, Tea time, two lumps! Okay, yes, I am purposely sounding British for a reason. My first 'list entry (with assist from my virtual BFF Oates) from the 80s British invasion is a four-man band from London, UK, who formed in 1981. The gimmick? A white guy, black guy, Jewish guy and...George?

Hey there, hi there, ho there. The latest duelling 80's playlist by me and my friend Oates (on account we just love oatmeal for breakfast), casts the spotlight on one Patricia Mae Andrzejewski, a Brooklyn, NY native raised in Long Island who dropped out of Juilliard to marry her first husband, despite having the chance to become a major star in the world of opera. Lucky for us...her Beverly Sills aspirations came to a grinding halt - and we've been thankful ever since.

8EEZ Playlist: Rick Springfield
Greetings one and all. The latest playlist duel brings us to an artist who had the most unusual comeback after an attempt in the early-1970s to capitalize on his boyish good looks. But his career stalled, then froze, until the advent of MTV when his guitar-heavy rocker, pining-for-his-best-friend's-girl single went all the way to Number 1 on the charts and signaled his official comeback. Oh, it didn't hurt that his handsome looks remained intact enough to land him a stint on the popular soap opera "General Hospital"

8EEZ Playlist: Journey
Hello again and welcome. The latest in this duelling playlist between me and my good buddy Oates (as his hair and mustache are curlier than mine) is a favorite band of mine from San Francisco, CA, who churned out massive hits in the 1980s despite having been formed the year after I was born. 1973.

8EEZ Playlist: The Pointer Sisters
Hello one and all. This third entry in my duelling playlist with my good buddy, Calvin Cherry (who earned the nickname Oates on account I have blond hair like Daryl Hall), is devoted to an artist or group from the Reagan/Bush era that saw the rise of Jazzercise, the Cabbage Patch Kids, Freddy Krueger and the Iran Contra affair.
