70s music
The 1970s were all about sex, drugs and rock and roll; Beat welcomes you to our Disco Inferno.
Bat Out Of Hell
The title refers to his very successful album and song by the same title. He was larger than life and full of dynamic energy. American singer and actor Meat Loaf could belt out a song in a rough, tough, voice and then switch to a slower ballad and wring out the emotions in you. Sadly on January 20, 2022, Meat Loaf passed away and joined the rock and roll band in the sky at the age of 74. As much as he will be missed his music and the movies in which he played make him immortal and we can still enjoy his dynamic presence on videos.

Feliz Navidad: An amazing journey of 5 decades for the beloved Christmas classic
Feliz Navidad: Heartwarming in any language Various members of my family including myself have said that it's not Christmas until we hear Feliz Navidad by Jose Feliciano. For some reason, I thought I recalled hearing the song on the kitchen radio in what we called our old house. My family moved from there in 1968 and the classic Christmas song was not written until 1970 so my recolection is wrong,

My Second Favourite Album: El Dorado by The Electric Light Orchestra
The genesis of the Electric Light Orchestra was a band that would take over from the Beatles at the fade outs to “Strawberry Fields Forever” and ”I Am The Walrus” , both heavy on strings but still steeped in rock. The Beatles had not been scared of orchestral arrangements and “Eleanor Rigby” contained only Paul McCartney on vocals , the music being provided double string quartet arranged by George Martin.

Rock and Roll With a Symphonic Beat
British rock group Electric Light Orchestra or ELO comes from Birmingham, England. Actually, if you just hear their name, they sound like a symphonic orchestra. During their popularity in the years between 1971 and 1986, they came out with 11 studio albums and added on one more in 2001. This band came together as the creation of Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, whose dream was to add classical overtones to rock and pop songs. Wood departed the band after they came out with their debut album, but Lynne stayed and wrote and arranged all of their original compositions and also produced all of their albums.

Male Musicians of the 1970s. Top Story - September 2021.
The 70's was a fun and diverse era in which we saw singer-songwriters come to the forefront. Punk rock and disco had their heyday in the mid and late 70's. Funk brought out the quirky and sometimes freakish side of R&B and adult contemporary was a force with which to be reckoned. This post focuses on some of the male musicians that made a mark in the 70's spanning many of these genres.
