Some Music YOU Will Probably Hate
But I Love. For Sam Spinelli's "Do Your Worst " Challenge

Introduction
This is for Sam Spinelli's challenge that you can read about here:
Now, the thing is, I don't hate any music. I might find some annoying or banal like elevator music, and the fact that almost all music seems to end up advertising something, but if something comes on the radio and I don't like it, I switch it off or change channels.
Often, people talk about "guilty pleasures", and I did this playlist on the subject and these are even more songs that I like but you might hate:
So here are a few tunes you may hate, but I love, not just for the effects that they have on others:
Roxy Music - "Sultanesque" "B" side of "Love is The Drug"
When I first bought "Love Is The Drug", I only really liked the ending, but I flipped and heard this monstrous drone, and thought immediately is Eno back? But, no, it is a Bryan Ferry composition.
Of course, when I was in the pub, and this was on the jukebox, this got put on, and lots of moans started, "What the feck is that? Get it off".
It lasts for five minutes, so I got my money's worth, plus some fun.
Curved Air - "Vivaldi" from "Air Conditioning"
I was at a bar at a Young Farmers college and checked out the jukebox and was shocked to see Curved Air's "Vivaldi" on there. I didn't know it had been released as a single, but it is seven and a half minutes long, featuring some relentless and vicious violin from Darryl Way
Farmers are not known for their broad musical taste, so this was another opportunity to have a bit of fun.
The Young Farmers did not think so, shouting and kicking the jukebox until the record stopped.
Needless to say I did not go there again.
Tom Robinson Band - "Glad To Be Gay"
This was always a good one to offend the alpha males in certain pubs.
"Who put this crap on, I'd f*ckin paste 'em"
"Me!!"
That was usually enough to quieten them down, as I am big enough to look after myself and my friends.
The Sweet - "Blockbuster"
This wasn't me who did this, but a DJ with a sense of humour at a sixth form rock disco that I attended with a couple of girls I knew at the time. The DJ put on Bowie's "Jean Genie", and the cool "heads" were on the dance floor. The DJ then segued it into Blockbuster by The Sweet, which uses the same riff, and it took them about two minutes to realise they had been fooled and stamped off like spoilt brats.
The thing is, The Sweet were, when they wanted to be, serious heavy metal. Check that out here:
Captain Beefheart - "Orange Claw Hammer" from "Trout Mask Replica"
Captain Beefheart had a singing range of eight octaves, reputedly. He took the Magic Band into the desert and taught them how to play, which resulted in "Trout Mask Replica", which has one of the most striking covers you will ever see.
I don't know anyone apart from me who admits to enjoying this mad pseudo sea shanty.
Tom Waits - "Heigh Ho (The Dwarfs Marching Song)" from "Stay Awake"
This album is a series of reinterprations of Disney classics. Tom Waits is responsible for some of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear, and for some of the most frightening songs you will encounter. This falls into the latter category.
Conclusion
All these songs are in my collection. Thank you so much for your time, and I would love to hear if there is anything you like.

I hadn't heard any of these but I'm enjoying expanding my music experiences with your playlists. I honestly don't hate any of them.
The Sweet, Roxy Music, Captain Beefheart, Tom Waits are all heavyweights of music in my mind. I had a feeling your list was going to be a great list of "I don't actually hate this, even if you do" music, from you, Mike. Superb list and I don't hate any of them :)
The Sweet are so underrated! :)
haha i like all this music actually, roxy music a lot so happy you posted it in this challenge such sounds heal me from all around :)
What an interesting write-up of these kinds of songs and music. Good work.
Awesome write up, I really enjoyed the context you added to each song, especially the personal anecdotes :) Trolling people with a jukebox choice is hilarious. By the way your first link did not work for me, and I haven’t tried the rest yet because I’m still listening to the second song. This violinist absolutely shreds, I dig it :)
The breadth/range of your music knowledge never ceases to amaze me. Great article.
