Soft rock is also referred to as light rock. This type of music originated in the late 1960s in Southern California and the UK. In this series are some of the best soft rock songs to come out over the years. The links to the first and second parts are below.

“More Than Words” is a song that was recorded by the American rock band Extreme. It is a ballad that features the acoustic guitar played by Nuno Bettencourt and the vocals of Gary Cherone along with harmony vocals by Bettencourt. The song was released as the third single from their 1990 album Pornograffitti. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Make It With You” is a song that was written by David Gates and recorded by the American pop-rock group Bread. The only members of this group appearing on the recording are Gates and drummer Mike Botts. This song became the group’s only number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Something” is a song that was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles. It is featured on their 1969 album Abbey Road. The song was written by George Harrison. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also charted on the UK Singles chart.

“Sister Golden Hair” is a song that was recorded by the rock band America and is featured on their 1975 album Hearts. It became the band’s second single to rise to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“So Far Away” is a song that was written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Carole King. It is featured on her 1971 album Tapestry. The recording features James Taylor on acoustic guitar. King has created a marvelous ballad with soft, melodic phrasing and a soothing piano accompaniment.

“Sailing” is a soft rock song that was written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Christopher Cross. It is featured as the second single from his 1979 self-titled debut album. The song was quickly certified Gold and went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It won the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Arrangement of the Year.

“Sara Smile” is a song that was written and recorded by the American musical duo Hall & Oats. It was released as the third single from their album Daryl Hall & John Oates. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Sundown” is a song that was recorded by the Canadian folk artist Gordon Lightfoot. It was released as a single in 1974. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts.

“Take It to the Limit” is a song recorded by the American rock band The Eagles. It was written by band members Randy Meisner, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey and is featured on their 1975 album One of These Nights. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was ranked by Billboard as the number 25 song for 1976.

Tears in Heaven” is a song that was recorded by English guitarist, singer, and songwriter Eric Clapton. It was written by Clapton and Will Jennings about the death of Clapton’s four-year-old son Conor. The song was featured on the 1991 Rush film soundtrack. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts. The song won three Grammy Awards for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it at number 353 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
