One day

on a Friday

we had a Sunday afternoon

Incidentally, decadently

the two of us cocooned

We lay together, smoking,

Our clothes strewn across the floor

The rubble of our existence

locked behind the bedroom door

The bed was soft

The air was warm

The world had gone away

Our Neverland

from forgotten sands

We remembered how to play

We stared up at the ceiling

blue skies in white artex

and hand-in-hand we waited

for the drugs to take effect

Outside, we could hear life

roaring in the rain

A melancholic philharmonic

rattling the windowpane

Silently, our thoughts trickled

out of our heads-

into seas of possibilities

around the island of our bed

(Chorus)

Tomorrow was as certain

as the day we'd spend undone

A moment grasped

A lifeline gasp

From a time once unbegun

(Verse)

Forever, we'd been someone

who fit an us-shaped box

A nondescript conundrum

made out of ticks and blocks

Now we're floating somewhere

on free high tides of hope

cast out from the shackles

of the daily trope

(chorus)

Tomorrow can stay certain

Today, we spend undone

A moment grasped

A playful gasp

From a time once unbegun

(verse)

Perhaps next month

we'll make a Monday

a Saturday night in June

Play some Desert Island discs

and dance beneath the moon

The stars could be-come memories

The clouds could be our sighs

And in the dark extremities

our wild dreams could arrive

(chorus)

For tomorrow may be certain

But today is already won

We've gone and grasped

a full lung gasp

Of time still unbegun

(verse)

Close all the curtains

Lie naked on the floor

Remember that for certain

You deserve all this and more

(Chorus)

For tomorrow may be certain

but today is not yet done

With each gasp

make a moment last

and remember how you begun

Author's Note: (added because to enter the challenge, apparently, the entry needs to be 500 words, which seems odd for a songwriting challenge... ah well..)

This is the first song I have ever written. I had never used Suno AI before, but goodness, was it easy! I wrote the lyrics myself, of course; this is a writing competition after all. However, I used Suno AI to help achieve the desired tune.

What amazes me is that the AI used the same tune to bring the song to life as the one playing in my head as I wrote the words.

Which is incredibly weird. Don't you think?

To hear a song that has only been alive inside your head moments before is very much an out-of-body experience.

But it's one I really, really, really like!

The only part of the song I'm not keen on is the musical sign-off at the end. However, I am so excited that in one take, it came out pretty much as I expected; I hit submit and, if you'll excuse the pun, played on.

This was such an enjoyable experience. I am super keen to write more songs now!

Album out for Christmas!

Ha ha!

Ahem... maybe not.

However, maybe, just maybe, it has given me the confidence to write more song lyrics.

Suno AI can help me musically frame my words and send them to actual musicians who, in turn, may be able to create something more profoundly stirring than any algorithm could.

How wonderful would that be?!

One thing I do know for sure: I will be making more.

You can count on that.

I would love to know what you make of this. Please leave a comment.

Thank you for reading... and... errr... listening!

Wow!!

With love,

CJ xxx

P.S. Due to some bots attacking Vocal's defences I have had to add a link rather than an embedded connection to my Suno song. C'est la vie! I hope you enjoy the words anyway. xxx

I think you may have a future in writing songs. This line just made me feel like we should, carefree and happy: Tomorrow can stay certain Today, we spend undone

  • Excellent ‘first’ song’! I like the rhythm & rhyme along with the story’s progression & mention of various days. Well done. 🤗

This was so great Caroline, I loved the music and had no idea AI could do such things! I love that you had such a good experience and ventured out into song writing, I recall you being great with poetry so I'm not shocked your song is sooo good! In my head they're kind of similar genres of writing!

I’m glad you heard this inspiring experience, Caroline. I loved the lyrics but the music needs a little more work, I believe.

  • Omgggg, the music is just so, I can't quite find the words to describe how it made me feel but it sure touched my heart. Your lyrics are soooo beautiful!

I read the words first and thought they were beautiful…. Seeing the blue sky in the artex ceiling and the melancholic philharmonic…. Fab. When I listened to the music I thought it had a Simon and Garfunkel feel to it. Ace!! Loved it. Good luck in the challenge.

  • AI music is just scary, you wouldn't skip it and it fits your word in excellently . I decided I had to listen as I was choosing music for my next Glittering Fox piece. Excellent. This is a definite Top Story and at least a challenge place

It’s insane how good AI is getting at this stuff. Thanks for sharing this though! I hadn’t even considered attempting this challenge but I might give it a crack now that this is a possibility haha

  • I know the five hundred word thing was odd. I will take a listen tomorrow. I did an acoustic version of mine and then two Suno ones to demonstrate the pitfalls of of using the product. Excellent words and a probable Top Story

I've been using Suno for a couple years now. I'm obsessed, but I can't find myself ever truly satisfied. Redoing them a million times lol. Your song is stunning, my friend. The lyrics are transcendent, and I'm impressed with the musical accompaniment. Definitely expect to see (hear!) more amazing songs from you!! <3

  • Lamar Wiggins10 months ago

🤩 Lovely song to accompany your amazing lyrics. Maybe I'll attempt to use Suno!
