Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. “Holly Holy” is a song that was written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Neil Diamond in 1969. The song is featured on Diamond’s album Touching You, Touching Me and is included in his live version albums Hot August Night and Greatest Hits: 1966-1992. It was a follow-up to his successful hit “Sweet Caroline”. The song charted on the US Pop Singles and Easy Listening charts. The song became a Gold record and eventually a Platinum record.
“How Do You Do” is a song that was recorded by the Dutch pop duo Mouth and McNeal. It was written and composed by Hans Van Hemert and Harry Van Hoof. They won the Buma Export Award for the most records sold abroad by a Dutch musical act in 1972. The song quickly became an international hit single. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Hello I Love You” is a song that was recorded by the American rock band The Doors. It is featured on their 1968 album Waiting for the Sun. The song became a hit and topped the charts in both the US and Canada. The song charted on the Billboard and Cash Box charts rising to the number one position.
“Hang On Sloopy” is a song that was written by Wes Farrell and Bert Berns. It was first recorded by the rhythm and blues vocal group The Vibrations in 1964. The song became successful when recorded by the American rock group The McCoys. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song became standard fare for garage bands and became one of the first songs recorded by the English rock band The Yardbirds.
“Happy Together” is a song that was written by Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon. It was recorded by the American rock band The Turtles in 1967. It rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and is featured on their album of the same name. The song became a hit and The Turtles performed it on TV shows like The Ed Sullivan Show and The Smothers Brothers Show.
“Have You Ever Seen the Rain” is a song written by band member John Fogerty and recorded by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. It is featured on their 1971 album Pendulum. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box charts. It became the band’s eighth Gold-selling single. In March 2023 the song surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.
“Hey There Lonely Girl” is a song that was first recorded by the American R&B group Ruby & the Romantics in 1963. It was recorded by the American singer, musician, and minister Eddie Holman in 1969. This became a popular version due to Holman’s falsetto voice. His version charted in the US and the UK. It rose to number one on the Canadian charts.
“Heart Like a Wheel” is a popular song recorded by American singer Linda Ronstadt in 1974. It is featured on her album of the same name which topped the Billboard 200 and became her first number one album in the US. The album is on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
