Juli Patchouli’s First Miserabilist Mish-Mash Mixtape of 2025
My Friend Juli Creates Brilliant Playlists. This Is The First One Of 2025

Introduction
My friend Juli is a music lover, DJ, Poet, Writer, Performer, Snake Owner, and Cat Lover and publishes playlists on Facebook.
These twenty songs are all her choices, I have not heard any of them though I know a few of the bands so I will comment as I put this playlist together.
YouTube does not indicate where the videos are licensed to play so I try and choose the artist's or record label's channels in the hope they will be globally available.
A few of these are Bandcamp rather than YouTube links so you may have to sign up, but it is free and is good for artists. The Bandcamp links have the play button in the bottom left of the image whereas the YouTube ones are centre.
Take a listen and leave comments, I'd love to hear what you think.
Thanks for this Juli.
This was the last one:
Dernière Volonté - "Sirene Automatique"
Gorgeously atmospheric French sounds, thanks Juli.
Twin Tribes - "Monolith"
This reminds me of a French band who have slipped my mind, I was scrabbling through my CD collection hoping it would turn up. If it does I will share it with you
Chromatics - "Twist the Knife"
Synthesiser and electric drums propel this at a fairly sedate rate with fairly mellow vocals. I like this.
ADULT. - "Contagious"
Drifting in on a bed of radio interference grey noise before the metallic drums and synth take over setting the scene for the echoey repeated vocals. It is good.
The Jesus & Mary Chain - "Her Way of Praying"
Another slice of the band's excellent relentless guitar sound. The first band I know well on this playlist.
Freak Slug - "Shiver"
I honestly think this sounds quite gorgeous with shades of The Cocteau Twins
Perfume Genius - "Your Body Changes Everything (BOY HARSHER Remix)"
Like many of the songs so far, this is driven by a lively synth riff but with drums and strings and then a melancholic voice at odds with the music. Still a great listen.
Antlers Mulm - "Painted Grave (Blue Version)"
This was the only version I could find of this song, again a pleasant background synth-driven song with a gravelly dark voice.
Imiafan - "Someone Else (feat. Veronica Vasicka)"
A creepy keyboard-heavy back tune with a dark female voice. This is not happy but still worth a listen.
Magazine - "The Light Pours Out Of Me"
In one of my first bands we covered "Shot By Both Sides", I loved playing that riff (that was borrowed from Pete Shelley's Buzzcock song "Lipstick"). This is just pure dark guitar and drum-based threat presided over by Devoto's voice.
Film School - "Defending Ruins (A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS Remix)"
This is propelled by the drums while the electronics provide an ambient backdrop, eventually swirling into a maelstrom of noise while the vocals follow the flow.
Memo Boy + Chakra Efendi - "Insomniac"
Despite the vicious drum intro, the music is almost relaxing guitar-based, and the echoey reverb vocals are an almost ambient backdrop.
Casket Cassette - "HAUNTS"
The guitar is threatening like Link Wray and the vocals are draped over it like a black shroud on a coffin.
The Singing Nun - "Entre Les Etoiles"
My French is very ropey but I think this is "Among The Stars" and the night is mentioned a lot, and she is accompanied by an acoustic guitar so in a different universe to everything else on this playlist.
Lovataraxx - "Angst"
After being lulled into a false sense of almost calm by The Singing Nun, this puts the playlist back on the electronic melancholic track.
Peine Perdue - "Segment"
Driven by vicious synth and motorik drum and and decorated with an almost ethereal French vocal.
She Past Away = "Soluk"
The guitars remind me of The Sisters of Mercy with dark Eastern European vocalisation.
Bauhaus - "Bite My Hip"
The sound is not very muscular but the performance definitely is. Just guitar, drums and Pete Murphy.
Conclusion
Thank you for reading and I hope you have enjoyed this as much as I have.
