Juli Patchouli's "Animal Complicaton" Playlist:
My Friend Juli Creates Brilliant Playlists. This Is Another

Introduction
My friend Juli is a music lover, DJ, Poet, Writer, Performer, Snake Owner, and Cat Lover and publishes playlists on Facebook.
These fourteen songs are all her choices, I have not heard any of them though I know a few of the bands so I will comment as I put this playlist together.
YouTube does not indicate where the videos are licensed to play so I try and choose the artist's or record label's channels in the hope they will be globally available.
Take a listen and leave comments, I'd love to hear what you think.
Many of these coincide with the last one so I have taken liberties with other songs Juli has shared.
Thanks for this Juli.
This was the last one:
'Animal Complication'
PIGFACE - "Suck" (ft. TRENT REZNOR)
Vicious, driven by drums. A minute or so before the guitars appear, but they are almost unnecessary. This is part of the Reznor canon no doubt. Very impressive.
SHOW OF HANDS - "Crow on the Cradle"
I think this is the first folk piece that Juli has shared. It is dark but Show of Hands are also a favourite of mine. This is quite dark, but beautifully so. If you have come here to discover something, the first two on this playlist are diamonds.
SUEDE - "Where the Pigs Don’t Fly"
I lve the initial sound on this sounding like something caught from an Eastern European short-wave radio transmission before Brett Anderson's voice drags this amazing piece back into focus.
ADAM & THE ANTS "Antmusic"
Something familiar for all in one of Juli's playlists and that is no bad thing welding Burundi Drums to American Indian Chants to give us great pop music.
GRAUZONE - "Eisbär"
An Arctic storm fades us into this before the song kicks in.
"Eisbär" (German for "polar bear") is a 1980 song by the Swiss Neue Deutsche Welle band Grauzone. A cult hit, it first appeared on the 1980 compilation album "Swiss Wave – The Album". The shorter single version was later collected on the Grauzone album Die Sunrise Tapes (1998).
The song features a man singing he wants to be "a polar bear in the cold polar", because by being one he "wouldn't have to cry any longer and everything would be fine." The instrumental arrangement also evokes an Arctic atmosphere.
ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN - "Crocodiles"
The title track from the eponymous album, probably a bit more confrontational than some of their songs, but this is their earlier less developed sound but still a great song.
PIXIES - "Manta Ray"
A Pixies song I was unaware of but this is so Pixies, and from a favourite album of my youngest daughter Kirsty.
PATTI SMITH - "White Rabbit"
Her name says you have to listen to this and this is even darker that the Jefferson Airplane original, driven by a snare drum rather than the bass guitar. Rather excellent, and it's Patti Smith.
TRAITRS - "The Way Through a Bird’s Love" from "Horses in the Abattoir"
A band I was unaware of until now. The sound is a sort of crowded emptiness and reminds me a little of Suede. Another for me to investigate further.
RAT-ALARM - "This Forest Rat Song"
Julli chose "Hostel Heart" for her playlist but I could not find it on YouTube but there are a lot of pieces by the band on the channel and the band's name fits them into this playlist. Relentlessly challenging.
NADINE SHAH - "Club Cougar"
I remember when I first discovered Nadine we had a lot of conversations about "Ethiopiques". Her sound is one of the most original I have ever heard. I have seen her live about three times, she is a local lass. One of the few artists from whom I still buy each new release, and this is just as good as anything she has released. This is a must listen.
CORLYX - "Twist Like an Animal"
The last band I don't know of this list and this is relentless and challenging , but worth four minutes of your time.
MARC & THE MAMBAS - "Muleskinner Blues"
An odd cover from Marc Almond's second string. Sorry the sound on this is not too great but it is the only copy I could find. I mean it sounds good different to the original, but I wish the sound capture had been better.
MARILYN MANSON - "Are You the Rabbit?"
To close this list some relentless metal from MM.
Thank you for getting this far, but these are fourteen great songs.
