The best of Roy Orbison

American singer and songwriter Roy Orbison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. The singer died of a heart attack in December 1988. A month later, in 1989, his song “You Got It” was released as a single and became his first hit to reach the Top Ten in both the US and the UK in nearly 25 years.

“Blue Bayou” is a song that was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. Originally it was recorded by Orbison in 1963. When American singer Linda Ronstadt recorded the song in 1977 it became her signature song. The song is featured on Orbison’s album In Dreams and appears on his 1989 posthumous album A Black & White Night Live.

“California Blue” is a song that was written by Orbison, Jeff Lynne, and Tom Petty. Orbison recorded it in 1988 and released it as a single. It is featured on his album Mystery Girl.

“Crying” is a song that was written by Orbison and Joe Melson. It is featured on Orbison’s 1962 album of the same name. Orbison re-recorded the song as a duet with Canadian singer and songwriter k.d. lang. When originally released as a single, the song went to number one on the Cashbox chart and also charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song received a Grammy Hall of Fame Award, and in 2010 Rolling Stone magazine ranked it at number 69 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

"Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream)" is a song that was written by Cindy Walker and recorded by Orbison in 1962. The song became an international hit and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"In Dreams" is a song that was written and recorded by Orbison in 1963. It is the title track from the album of the same name. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts. Rolling Stone magazine ranks it at number 319 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

"Love Hurts" is a song that was written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. In 1960 it was originally recorded by The Everly Brothers and is known for the hard rock version recorded in 1974 by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth. In 1961 Orbison recorded his version which became the first version to be a hit.

"Only the Lonely (Know the Way I Feel)" is a 1960 song that was written by Orbison and Joe Melson. This became the first major hit for Orbison. It charted on the Billboard pop music charts and Billboard R&B chart. In the UK the song went to number one. In 1999 the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

“Pretty Woman” is a song that was written by Orbison and Bill Dees. It was released as a single in 1964 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song became the third single by Orbison to top the UK Singles chart. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA. The song gained popularity again when it was used for the 1990 film of the same name and its 2018 Broadway musical adaptation.

“Running Scared” is a song that was written by Orbison and Joe Melson. This is an operatic rock ballad that went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and charted on the UK Singles chart. It is the final track on Orbison’s 1962 album Crying.
