“Days of Wine and Roses” is a song that was written by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It received the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the 1964 Grammy for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It was recorded by the American singer Andy Williams, and his version charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. My favorite version has always been the one recorded by the Bee Gees member Robin Gibb.
“Elderberry Wine” is a song that was written and recorded by the English singer and songwriter Elton John along with Bernie Taupin. It is featured on his 1973 album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player.
"Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" is a song that was written and performed by the British-American singer-songwriter Rupert Holmes. It is featured on his 1979 album Partners in Crime. It became the final US number one song of the 1970s.
“One Mint Julep” is an R&B song that was written and composed by Rudy Toombs. It became a hit in 1952 for the American rhythm and blues/doo-wop vocal group the Clovers. This was one of the first “drinking songs” that became a hit and one of the first to feature a tenor saxophone solo. In 1961 the song was recorded by the American singer, pianist and songwriter Ray Charles and went to number one on the R&B charts and crossed over to the pop charts.
“Margaritaville” is a song that was written and recorded by the American singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It is featured on his 1977 album Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts. It also crossed over to the Hot Country Songs chart. After the death of Buffett in 2023, the song reentered the Top 40. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016.
“Red, Red Wine” is a song that was written and recorded by the American singer and songwriter Neil Diamond in 1967. It is featured on his album Just for You. In 1983 the English reggae band UB40 recorded a cover version and featured it on their album Labour of Love. Their version went to number one on the UK Singles chart as well as the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band performed it at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Concert. Their version features a lighter, reggae-style beat. Diamond has said that UB40’s version of this song is among his favorite covers.
“Tequila” is a 1958 Latin-inspired instrumental song that was written by Chuck Rio and recorded by the American rock band the Champs. The song went to number one on both the pop and R&B charts. It won a Grammy for Best Rhythm & Blues Performance at the 1st Annual Grammy Awards in 1958.
The Champs recorded a sequel to this song, “Too Much Tequila,” which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Both songs are featured on the LP Tequila Party.
“Tequila Sunrise” is a song that was written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey and recorded by the American country rock band the Eagles. It is the first single from their 1973 album, Desperado. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Whiskey River” is a song that became one of the American country singer and songwriter Willie Nelson’s signature songs. It was written by Johnny Bush in 1972 and is featured on Nelson’s 1973 album Shotgun Willie. The song became a staple of country music, radio, and live performances.
“Whiskey and You” is a song that was written by the American country musician Chris Stapleton. It was originally recorded by the American country singer and actor Tim McGraw and is featured on his 2007 album Let It Go.
