How Do You Keep the Music Playing

Songs expressing remembrance

By Rasma RaistersPublished 5 months ago 3 min read

A dreamy mix of music for an inspirational week, and let’s always keep the music playing. Memories are a great part of our lives.

“The Song We Were Singing” is a song that was recorded by English musician Paul McCartney. It is the opening song on his album Flaming Pie. McCartney wrote the song in a nostalgic mood in Jamaica in early 1995. The album Flaming Pie featured several members of his family such as his son James McCartney on electric guitar. The album was certified Gold. It was reissued in 2020 as part of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection.

“Every Rose Has Its Thorns” is a song that was recorded by the American glam metal band Poison. It is a power ballad and the third single released from their album Open Up and Say...Ahh! The song became their signature song and their only number one hit in the US, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song also charted on the Mainstream Rock and UK Singles charts. VH 1 has it at number 34 on their list of 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s.

“How Do You Keep the Music Playing” is a song that was written by Michael Legrand and Alan and Marilyn Bergman for the 1982 film “Best Friends.” It was performed by American singer and songwriter James Ingram and American singer Patti Austin. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

“Billy’s Theme” is a song that was recorded by the American country music singer and songwriter Hoyt Axton. The song was the theme for the 1974 film “Buster and Billie” by Columbia Pictures.

“Drift Away” is a song that was written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by the British singer and actor Mike Berry. It became popular when it was recorded by the American soul singer Dobie Gray. This version became an international hit and Gray’s biggest hit charting on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The RIAA certified it Gold.

“Beautiful Dreamer” is a song that was recorded by the American singer and songwriter Roy Orbison and featured on his album In Dreams. The song is a parlor song written by the American songwriter Stephen Foster. It was published posthumously in March 1864, by Wm. A. Pond & Co. of New York. The first edition states on its title page that it is "the last song ever written by Stephen C. Foster, composed but a few days prior to his death."

“Straight From the Heart” is a song that was recorded by the Canadian singer and songwriter Bryan Adams. It is the lead single to his 1983 album Cuts Like a Knife. The song was written by Eric Kagna, a Vancouver singer and songwriter, and the instrumental bridge was contributed by Adams. It became Adams' breakthrough song and charted on the Adult Contemporary chart. On the Canadian Adult Contemporary chart it went to number one.

“Our Last Song Together” is a song that was recorded by the American singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka. It is featured on his 1973 album The Tra-La Days Are Over. The song was co-written by Sedaka and his songwriting partner Howard Greenfield.

“I’ll Remember You” is a song that was recorded by the American rock band The Mamas & the Papas. It was released in 1968 and is featured on their album The Mamas & the Papas Deliver. The song was written by band members John Philips and Michelle Philips. The song reflects the band's signature harmonies and lyrical style, contributing to their popularity during the 1960s. The song explores themes of nostalgia and longing. So odd I could not find this song on YouTube so I added another memorable song, "California Dreaming."
