Goldie Lookin' Chain - A Playlist

Welsh Charver Rap - Be Warned, Very Rude, Very Clever and Very Funny

Goldie Lookin' Chain

Introduction

Last week I listened to two of my Goldie Lookin' Chain albums and found them still extremely silly, funny and well worth a listen.

Be warned many of these songs contain swearing and explicit sex and drug references.

The final "Newport/New York" conclusion is safe though.

I was not sure whether this should be in the Filthy Vocal Community but I think it is fine in Beat with a warning. Be warned all the songs contain references to drugs and sex with lots of swearing. I was going to put warnings on all the songs, but that's pointless, everyone may offend people with more genteel sensibilities although I am sure many will immediately want to listen.

Here is their website

and their Wikipedia entry:

Some Goldie Lookin' Chain Songs

'You Knows I Love You'' from 'The Manifesto'

GLC become a boy band for this one to ease you into what they are about. No swearing, sex or drugs unusually for the band.

"Half Man Half Machine" from "Greatest Hits"

This is maybe the Welsh Charver take on Robocop and is extremely you know what.

Guns Don't Kill People (Rappers Do) from "Greatest Hits"

This is quite subdued with very little swearing so if you want to check out the music safely this might be the one for you.

"Your Missus Is A Nutter" from "Safe As FvCK"

This is about an aggressive Charver girlfriend, and lots of nightclub violence, most of the naughty words are muted, so you might have to get the record if you are not sure of the words.

"HRT" from "Safe As FvCK"

The dangers of smoking chemically enhanced weed. Lots of sexually explicit descriptions to enhance the description of the effects.

"R'n'B" from "Safe As FvCK"

More Boy Band stuff with plenty of Single-Entendres. If you didn't listen to the words you might think this is a pleasant song. It is a very naughty song.

"Sister" from "Safe As FvCK"

This is a filthy break-up song, be warned.

"At The Drive-Thru" from "Kings Of Caerleon"

A song about the dangers of fast food, the video is worrying.

"Paranoia" from "Safe As FvCK"

This takes the music from "Walking In The Air" from "The Snowman" but this is full of swearing, drugs, and sex and is very funny. One of my favourites.

The Newport/ New York Conclusion

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys - "Empire State of Mind"

This is not a bad song. The YouTube video has thirty million views and two million thumbs-ups so people do like it.

Terema Wainwright and Alex Warren - "Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind)"

This was put on YouTube and Jay-Z and Alicia Keys kept getting it taken down, and eventually they just gave up. I suppose in a way it was giving the original extra traction. Check it out I think you might like iit if you can understand the references and the dialect. I love it.

Comic Relief Video - Newport State of Mind - Red Nose Day

Then the BBC got a lot of famous people to mime to it for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day so you get to see Michael Sheen and a lot of the people mentioned in the song.

Goldie Lookin' Chain - "Newport State of Mind (You're Not From Newport)"

But finally, Goldie Lookin' Chain took umbrage and released this tongue-in-cheek retort to the song which is also very funny.

Both contain lots of references to the town and supposedly famous sons and daughters.

Thank you so much for reading and listening and I hope you weren't too offended. I have included a warning so hopefully no one will be offended.

I think that their music is probably a sign of the times... and what needs adjusting.

Your music as in rap music says a lot about the state cities, communities and other places say about what is going on in those places and there are lessons to be learned even with all the swearing.
