Let’s step into the very first week of 2023 dancing! Hope you all have a healthy and progressive and successful year!

“Dance (While the Music Still Goes On)” by Swedish pop group ABBA was written by group members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. It is on their second album Waterloo which was released in 1974. The title track of this album won ABBA the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest and launched their career.

“Flashdance ...What a Feeling” is a song that comes from the 1983 movie “Flashdance”. The music is by Italian composer, songwriter, and record producer Giorgio Moroder and lyrics by English pop musician and record producer Keith Forsey and Irene Cara. The song was recorded by American singer, songwriter, and actress Irene Cara. The song is included in the soundtrack from the movie but when released as a single it became very successful. It went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA. The song won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song and Cara won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

“Dance Me to the End of Love” is a song that was written and recorded by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen in 1984. It is on his album Various Positions. The song follows a typical Greek “Hasapiko” dance path that was inspired by Cohen's love of the Greek Island of Hydra.

“Dancing on the Ceiling” is a song recorded by American recording artist Lionel Ritchie. The song was written by Ritchie, Mike Frenchik, and Carlos Rios and is on his third album of the same name. It became a worldwide hit and was on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. 

“Save the Last Dance for Me” is a song that was written by Doc Pomus and Mori Shuman. It was recorded by American do-wop and R&B group The Drifters with American soul, R&B singer, and record producer Ben E. King on lead vocals. The song was at number one on the US Pop chart and R&B chart. A nice version available on YouTube is a video of this song, sung by Leonard Cohen.

“Dance to the Music” is a song that was a hit single for the American soul, funk, and rock band Sly and the Family Stone in 1967. It was the first single by the band to get on the Billboard Pop Singles Top 10 chart and is at number 223 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

“I’m Just Happy to Dance With You” is a song that was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles for the movie soundtrack to “A Hard Day's Night.” The lead vocals are by George Harrison and is also included on their album Something New.

“Dancing in the Street” is a song that was written by Marvin Gaye, William “Mickey” Stevenson, and Ivy Jo Hunter. It became popular when recorded by the American vocal girl group Martha Reeves and The Vandellas. It made it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was on the UK Singles chart. It has become one of Motown's signature songs and is the group's premier signature song. It is on the group's third album Dance Party. In 2006 this version became one of fifty sound recordings preserved by the Library of Congress and is at number 29 on the Billboard list of 100 Greatest Songs of All Time. On YouTube, you can also find an interesting version of this song in a video with Mick Jagger and David Bowie.
