Songs with the word lady in the title

Lady is a nice respectable term to refer to a woman. Of course, there are those with no respect, who yell, “Hey, Lady!” I am referring to this as a positive term. Many terrific songs have been inspired by the term lady. One of my top favorites is “Three Times a Lady”. Which is your favorite?

“The Lady in Red” is a song by British-Irish singer and songwriter Chris de Burgh. It came out in 1986 and is the second single from his album Into the Light. This song brought de Burgh into the spotlight. His inspiration was his wife Diane and what she was wearing the first time they met. The song was featured briefly in a scene from the movie “American Psycho” in 2000.

“Lady Willpower” was written by Jerry Fuller. The song was recorded by the American rock pop group Gary Puckett & the Union Gap. The song became a big hit and was awarded a Gold disc from the RIAA. It is on the group’s 1968 album Incredible. The song charted at number one on the Cashbox Top 100 singles chart. It also charted on the Billboard Hot 100, Easy Listening, and UK Singles charts.

“Three Times a Lady” is a song recorded by the American soul group The Commodores in 1978. It was written by the group’s lead singer Lionel Richie and is on their album Natural High. The song quickly became a hit and went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the R&B chart, and the Adult Contemporary charts. For that year, it was the only Motown song to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song was the first number one single for The Commodores to become a Top Ten hit in the UK.

“Lay Lady Lay” is a song that was written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Bob Dylan. It was released in 1969 and is on his album Nashville Skyline. It was originally written for the soundtrack of the movie “Midnight Cowboy” but wasn’t submitted in time to be included in the finished film. Dylan released it as a single and it became his fourth and last Top Ten in the US. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number seven. It also made it on the UK Singles chart.

“Silver Lady” is a popular single recorded by American-British actor and singer David Soul. It was written by Tony Macaulay and Geoff Stephens. When released in 1977 the song went to number one on the UK Singles chart. In the US it charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts. It is included in this second album Playing to an Audience of One.

“Lady Madonna” is a song by the English rock band The Beatles. It was written by band member Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. In 1968 it was released as a single. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was included in the 1970 collection Hey Jude.

“Dark Lady” is a folk song that was recorded by American singer and actress Cher. It is on her eleventh album of the same name. The song was written and composed by John Robert “Johnny” Durill. In 1974 it was released as the first single from the album becoming the third solo US number one hit for Cher. In 1999 Cher performed this song during her Do You Believe Tour for the first time in 25 years and in 2002 she performed it 325 times during her Living Proof: The Farewell Tour.

“Lady Marmalade” is a song that was written by Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan. It quickly became a popular hit. The song included the sexually suggestive line in French “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?” which translates to “Do you want to sleep with me tonight?” The song got attention and became popular when it was recorded by the American R&B group Labelle in 1974. The song is included in their album Nightbirds. It went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2021, The Library of Congress selected Labelle’s version for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being “culturally, historically, or artistically significant”. Billboard listed the song at number 16 in their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.

“She’s a Lady” is a song that was written by Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and actor Paul Anka. It is on his album Paul Anka ‘70s. However, the song became a really big hit when it was recorded by Welsh singer Tom Jones in 1971. It became Jones’s highest-charting single in the US and his fifth and final Billboard Top Ten hit. The song was at number one on the Cash Box chart and also charted on the Easy Listening and Billboard Hot 100 charts. It is one of the songs associated with Tom Jones.

“Lady” is a song that was written by American singer and songwriter Lionel Richie. It was recorded by American country music artist Kenny Rogers in 1980. It is on his album Kenny Rogers’ Greatest Hits. The song has been listed at number 60 on the Billboard list of Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Singles, and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts. It became the first record of the 1980s to chart on all four of Billboard’s singles charts – country, Hot 100, adult contemporary, and Hot Soul Singles.
