
American singer and guitarist Randy Bachman left the American rock band The Guess Who and founded Bachman-Turner Overdrive with his two brothers, drummer Robbie and guitarist Tim, as well as the singer and bassist Fred Turner. They gained success with their third album, Not Fragile, and their number one single, “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.”
The Beach Boys consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson with Mike Love and Al Jardine. They came together in 1961, and their first hit, “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” came out in 1963, which became a classic of the California sound. Their career spanned over 50 years with 29 albums and 75 singles. They became a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
The Bee Gees were a trio of brothers that achieved success in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They consisted of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. They got recognition with their first hit, “New York Mining Disaster 1941.” Their successful career included nine number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The brothers won eight Grammy Awards and during the disco era were known as Disco Kings and the Kings of Dance by their fans. In 1997 they were included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Carpenters were a singing duo that consisted of Karen and Richard Carpenter. Brother and sister started out in their parent’s garage. They both had musical talents and combined Karen’s vocal ability in singing with Richard’s composition, harmonizing, and piano skills. They had a 14-year long career during which time they had three number one singles, such as “Top of the World.” They disbanded in 1979, and Karen died at the age of 32 due to anorexia nervosa.
Creedence Clearwater Revival/CCR came together with the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter John Fogerty along with his brother Tom on rhythm guitar. Their first notable hit was “Suzy Q,” released as a single in 1968. The song helped establish their signature sound, blending rock and swamp rock influences. From 1969 to 1970 the band came out with five Top Ten albums.
The Everly Brothers were a brother duo that was successful in the 1950s and 1960s. They were Phil and Don Everly. They came into the limelight with their hit song “Bye Bye Love.” During their career they had six singles that topped the UK chart and three number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1986 they were added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Jackson 5 was a band composed of five brothers—Jermaine, Tito, Jackie, Marlon, and the most famous brother, Michael Jackson. They had a successful career beginning in 1968. During their career they has four number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and five number ones on the R&B chart. Among their top songs was “I’ll Be There.” The Jackson 5 was rewarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Michael Jackson went on to have a successful solo career.
British rock band Oasis was formed in 1991 and made up of Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan, Tony McCarroll, and two brothers, Noel and Liam Gallagher. They achieved success with their first hit single, “Wonderwall.” The band released seven albums that topped the charts in the UK, had seven video albums, and had two number one hits.
The Osmonds were a brother quintet group consisting of Merrill, Jay, Alan, Wayne, and Donny Osmond. They were very successful in the early 1970s. They got recognition and success with their hit song “One Bad Apple.” The brothers went on to sell more than 77 million records, and Donny Osmond became a teen idol with a solo career.
The Ronettes were originally known as The Darling Sisters. They were Veronica and Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley. They gained success from their hit “Be My Baby.” During their career they had six Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. They disbanded in 1967.
Sly and the Family Stone was a band formed and led by Sly and Freddie Stone (vocals and guitar) along with their sister Rose (vocals and keyboards). The band blended rock, soul, funk, and psychedelia. Their first notable hit was “Dance to the Music.” During their career they had three number one singles and several Top Ten hits throughout the 1960s and early 1970s.
