
This talented British-Irish singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist came into the world as Christopher John Davison but is professionally known as Chris de Burgh. This talented musician has recorded 23 studio albums, 9 compilations, 4 live albums, and 66 singles. His greatest success came in 1986 when he released the love song “Lady In Red” which reached number one in several countries.

His debut album was released in 1974 titled Far Beyond These Castle Walls. One single was released from this album “Turning Around”.

He released his second album Spanish Train and Other Stories in 1975. The songs on this album showed how multi-talented de Burgh was and what a great storyteller. Favorite tracks from this album that fans enjoy are “A Spaceman Came Travelling” and “Patricia the Stripper”. Other favorites from the album are “Lonely Sky” and “I’m Going Home”.

His third album At the End of a Perfect Day was released in 1977. The Irish Times called this album one of de Burgh’s “darkest, most bittersweet releases”. It included songs like “Broken Wings” and “Summer Rain”.

Crusader was his fourth album and came out in 1979. It was produced by English musical composer, arranger, and performer Andrew Powell. He worked with the Alan Parsons Project and the musicians on this album came from that project. Among the songs on the album was “The Girl with April in Her Eyes”.

De Burgh’s fifth album Eastern Wind was released in 1980. It became the second-best-selling album in Norway after Abbey Road by The Beatles. One of the songs from this album is “Some Things Never Change”.

In 1982 he came out with his sixth album The Getaway. The album was a success on the UK Charts. It included a song that became a Top 40 Hit in the US “Don’t Pay the Ferryman”. This was an upbeat mythology-tinged pop-rock song evoking images of the Grim Reaper. The song became de Burgh’s first UK hit single. It also included another favorite song “Borderline”.

Man on the Line the seventh album came out in 1984. It included de Burgh’s second UK hit single “High on Emotion”. The song also charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album charted on the UK Albums chart and stayed there for 24 weeks. The album reached number one in Germany and Switzerland.

In 1986 came his eighth album Into the Light. This album included his biggest hit “The Lady in Red”. It became his first studio album to enter the Top Ten in the UK. Other successful songs on the album were “Fatal Hesitation” which became a UK number 44 hit and “Say Goodbye to It All” which was a continuation of the song “Borderline” on his 1982 album The Getaway. The song “For Roseanna” was dedicated to de Burgh’s daughter who at the time was 2 years old.

In 1988 de Burgh’s ninth album, Flying Colours was released. The biggest single from this album was “Missing You”. The album went to number one in the UK and became the only de Burgh album to reach number one on the UK Albums chart.

He came out with his eleventh album in 1994 This Way Up. Three favorite singles released from this album were “Blonde Hair,” “Blue Jeans,” and “The Snows of New York”.

Beautiful Dreams the twelfth album came out in 1995. It includes a collection of songs recorded with a full orchestra. There is a mix of songs written by de Burgh from previous albums, three new songs, and three cover versions. Among the cover versions is the song “Girl” credited to Lennon-McCartney.

De Burgh’s seventeenth album Footsteps came out in 2008. The album includes two songs written by de Burgh and thirteen cover versions of songs that inspired and influenced him throughout his career. Among them are songs by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Toto, and Peter Seeger. There is a great cover version of the Lennon-McCartney song “The Long and Winding Road”.

His nineteenth album was Footsteps 2 coming out in 2011. It also includes cover versions of many different songs. Among them is “Let It Be” by Lennon-McCartney.

As of today, his latest album is “The Legend of Robin Hood” and his twenty-second album. The concept for this album came from “Robin Hood”, a stage musical about the infamous Sherwood Forest nobleman and his band of outlaws. Chris de Burgh was invited to contribute storylines and melodies to the musical. Afterward, it inspired him to come out with this album.
