A Late Bloomers Playlist of Underrated Sounds
"I don't know how I survived this long, but I did. It's probably because of music." - K. Taylor
I've always been awkward, I think I was born with it ingrained in my skin. It's a factor that's set me apart from a large majority or probably almost all society.
I'm a 90's baby, with introverted taste and an extroverted flare.
I have a lot of fake confidence.
Being a devoted member of the fake - it - till - you - make - it movement, there are times in life when I would gladly ctrl - alt - delete myself and give the world a break from the existence that's me.
I'm a late bloomer in basically everything which is cause for some insecurity, the only logical result.
But one thing that's always kept me sane is music and like the rest of me, my taste in music can only be described as unique or so I've been told on more than one occasion. So I've come to collect quite a curation of underrated sounds and thought:
"why not share with the rest of the lovely people of the internet."
There could be someone out there like me.
So here's a very short - list of some underrated sounds, for this year of 2021:
1. Riz La Vie - She Said
Riz la Vie is a vibe that's kept me grounded in this current pandemic year
everyone is in the struggle
so you have to hold onto what you have and be happy about it.
(If you have nothing, this does not apply and I'm sorry.)
But it reminds you that you can't get stuck in a depression due to the very obvious fact that it will not help you.
So if you do get stuck, surround yourself with people you know will pull you out even if they have to drag you by your collar.
PRO TIP: Make sure you add some female energy (maybe a mom), to that group there pretty good with that kind of thing.
2. Ciscero - Good To Know feat. Masego, KP & Ambriia
Finding out about Ciscero through deep diving YouTube, frankly, I have no regrets.
The song isn't super new but the music-loving individual cannot deny the smooth rhymes and lyrics that reside in this song.
It gives off an 80s nostalgia vibe which I love and makes one feel a little envy at how skilled everyone in the video is with skates.
Due to the most unfortunate fact:
I can't skate but I certainly can trip.
3. Kamauu - Far Rockaway
Easily finding its way to my study playlist. Kamauu's unique voice always resonates with me.
I still haven't found one song by him I've held a dislike for. Besides, the fact that he may just be the reason, I join the natural hair movement.
This song is super underrated.
4. Moonchild - The List
I discovered Moonchild when I started my record collecting journey. I wanted to expand my scope aka. (I was bored and needed a hobby) and started exploring genres not particularly in my comfort zone per se.
A gem and more had been found during that time and that was back in 2018.
I still play this song on repeat and I think that says something because I'm a compulsive song skipper. It's super unfortunate.
If I had a dollar for every time my right as DJ has been revoked I would be a rich woman.
5. Hero The Band - Trouble In My Mind
Now as a 90's baby a lot of good songs came out in my come-up and or childhood.
My favorite year of hits would probably have to be 2010, but I think that might just have been a good year for me as an individual.
I have a strong love for the 2000s pop-punk vibe and that may just have been my year of discovery.
But that fact aside, Hero the Band just checks all my boxes.
It gives me that little ounce of nostalgia I need to remind me of times past but also keep me in the present.
