50 Eclectic Halloween/Samhain Jams
A playlist fitting for the living...and The DEAD

Happy Halloween, words uttered so effortlessly every year on October 31st. But sometimes it’s more than just a greeting or holiday. But a way of life & living. There are those of us who solemnly believe it is the season from which the dead & the living comes to a Nexus in our reality! The ancient Celt tribes of Britain & Ireland certainly believed so, every 1st of November. Not only did they believe it. They practiced & lived out the ethos & rituals of which it enfolds.
Halloween & Samhain for a lot of us is beyond belief, but more of a way of life and a compelling call to action to cherish the living and honoring the dead. Halloween & Samhain are still heavily celebrated today and throughout the ages there have been new traditions and rituals added to the holiday. Halloween is a time that my family & myself have come to love. From mid-September through November 1st. My brother, his fiancé, & myself love to start our spooky season. Filled with Halloween decorations, planning for Halloween events, eating fall foods, and watching old and new horror/thriller films & series of various genres and categories.
Since I love watching multi-genre horror films & series. I don’t see why I would treat an Halloween playlist any differently. I’ve created this eclectic 50 song playlist with the intent & purpose of cherishing the living and honoring the dead. There’s a majority of artist on this playlist that are no longer living. I think it’s fitting to listen & respect these departed artist on Halloween day. I am also a very eclectic person in every aspect of my life. I carefully selected songs from various times, generations, & genres that cohesively coincide with the energy and vibe of the Halloween/Samhain spirit.
The playlist is organized in segments. It starts with songs from the mid-late 60’s, then briefly into the 70’s, and then spanning into the 80’s/90’s, then closing out with the 2000’s & 2010’s. For music listeners that love rock, punk, new wave, synth new wave, Indie Alternative Rock, electronic & hip hop. Will certainly love this eclectic medley of Halloween appropriate music fitting for both the living & the dead! Creating this playlist has also inspired me to write an Halloween fictional short story.
Now since it is a 50 song playlist, I’ll be highlighting 10 songs from the playlist that should not go unheard or unseen. If you’re kicking it at a party, group of friends, or just chilling by your lonesome. This Halloween/Samhain playlist will suit your needs! Without further a due, I present to you “50 eclectic Halloween/Samhain Jams’.
Top 10 Highlighted songs from the playlist
1.GUNSHIP-Dark All Day (ft. Tim Cappello & Indiana)
If you’re a fan of vampires, horror, synth rock, & The Lost Boys. "Dark All Day" by GUNSHIP is up your alley. The music video is superb! Part animation & live action filled with iconic vampire film lore characters and nods. It’s a sonic & visceral work of art that is undeniably pure Halloween 80’s retro party vibes! Tim Cappello who recorded & performed the song ‘I Still Believe’ from the original 1987 ‘The Lost Boys’ film. Cameos in the music video with that Iconic raging saxophone!
2.MGMT-Little Dark Age
When MGMT initially broke out to the mainstream in the pre-2010’s. Most listeners would not have equated their sound being associated with Electronic Goth Rock. However their 2018 album & stand out track “Little Dark Age” hits all those marks. “Little Dark Age” sounds like what Halloween feels like. Especially if you’re already a fan of Electronic Synth Goth Rock. Reminiscent of sounds similar to Depeche Mood & The Cure. This song slowly feels like it is has been gradually gaining a cult following of listeners. It seems like a timeless track that easily contends with other Halloween-esque songs & vibes. Play this song at any Halloween party and you’ll get very little resistance to end or change the track!
3.M83-Graveyard Girl
Vibes: Loner Stoner Halloween Goth Enthusiast coming of age romance story.
4.Willow-Transparent Soul (ft. Travis Barker)
Vibes: Being haunted with style in the Underground BIPOC punk rock scene!
5.Michael Jackson-Thriller
Vibes: Funky Horror Pop too Iconic for it's own good, dripping with Halloween spirit!
6. Joy Division-Dead Souls
Vibes: Late 70's virtuoso IndiePunk intrinsic dark soul feelings.
7.Echo & The Bunnymen- The Killing Moon
Vibes: Feels like I am waking up in the street and getting back on my bike like Donnie Darko.
8. Duran Duran- The Chauffeur
Vibes: A glimpse in the life of creatures of the night having casual fun in dark hangouts & abandoned parking lots!
9.Medicine-Time Baby 3
Vibes: Hanging out in a IndieRock warehouse party during Halloween in the 90’s!
It’s easy to recognize Nirvana, Hole, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sound Garden, & Sonic Youth as IndieAlt Rock Titans. But a very promising & prominent Band that I feel gets unappreciatedly left out of the IndieAlt Rock Cannon. Would have to be LA’s “MEDICINE”. This band & song have a special place in my dark heart for I Intitially discovered their music from the 1993 film “The Crow” starring the late great Brandon Lee! The film is about a vengeful spirit enacting revenge on the night he & his lover we’re wrongfully murdered. Which just so happens to take place between Devils Night & Halloween. The band make an appearance playing in the nightclub venue of the film. There are two different versions of the song. The version that is performed in the film is ‘Time Baby II” from their 1992 album “Shot for Self-Living”. The version submitted for the soundtrack of The Crow, is ‘Time Baby III’. I personally love both versions of the song. But ‘Time Baby III’ is the more dark pop goth melodic version of the song that is perfect for Halloween season!
10.Siouxsie & The Banshee-SpellBound
Vibes: Atmospheric Dark Fantasy filled with magestic energy of Witchery & Halloween Glee!
