5 Secular Musicians Who Are Now Preachers

Some of them shock me!

By Jide OkonjoPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Nobody knows what the future holds. When artistes are in the studio recording music, they can't know for sure if what they're recording is going to be a hit or not. Even in the times they do believe they're making something special, they most times never know the extent to which a song will go.

There are times too when an artiste records a song not knowing that years down the line, they'll no longer be singing or performing those songs because their lives would have gone through some humongous change - a change such as a complete genre shift in the kind of music they make.

For these five artistes today, that is what happened. Each of them made it commercially as secular musicians, but now have abandoned secular music to go into either gospel music or preaching.

Without further ado, here are 5 Nigerian Secular Musicians Who Are Now Preachers.

1. Kas

Nigerian singer Kas most popular for his hit single, Fi Mi Le (a song which I really still love btw), surprised fans when he revealed that he would no longer be doing secular music and would instead become a pastor. He said about the surprising revelation in an interview with Vanguard,

I don’t know when people will believe I’m saying the truth. The thing is when you have been called people find it hard to believe. I’m an ashawo musician, I’m not an afro-beat artiste; I always say it that I’m an ashawo musician. When I was 7-years old I made a covenant with God that if He can make me a popular musician, in return I will serve Him. God did his part and I became a popular musician but in return I was running. Six pastors at six different times told me that I’m supposed to be a pastor. After a while my mom told me that if God really called me He would reveal Himself to me in a dream. It was like a joke but God later revealed Himself to me and I saw everything from the beginning of the ministry to what it would end up being

He has now done a Fi Mi Le (Gospel Remix).

2. Chidinma

Another artiste who surprised fans with sudden news that she would be departing from her very successful secular music career is Nigerian powerhouse singer, Chidinma.

Chidinma while talking about the decision during a musical ministration said:

I’m not here because I want fame. I’ve had all of that and I think I’ve had enough of all of that. So, right now is the time to work for my father. He is the one who has called me I did not bring myself here. As a matter of fact, I did not want to be here but I’m going into ministry in full force.

3. Soul E

Nigerian singer Soul E popularly known to many as Soul E Baba is another musician who quit secular music to pursue ministerial work. Soul E is now a pastor in South Africa where he holds crusades and revival programs.

Speaking to Encomium magazine, Soul E said:

I don’t like talking about myself but by the grace of God, I would say I was called into the office of a prophet

4. Kenny Saint Brown

Kenny Saint Brown known to so many of her fans as simply KSB enjoyed a lot of success making secular music in the mid 90s. Then, in the 2000s, KSB switched over to gospel music and has since become a minister and life coach.

5. Banky W

Another very popular musician who now does pastorial work is actor/singer, Banky W. Not only was Banky's last musical release a gospel song, he is also now a minister in The Waterbrook Church.

That's All.
