Salt and Surrender
The ocean enveloped me in a cold, rhythmic embrace, a mother soothing her restless child. Waves lapped against my skin, a lullaby beneath a heavy sky of omens. Fear threaded itself between my ribs as something ancient toyed with my feet. A patient lover, whispering promises of an inveitable descent, slow and certain.

The Hostess
Nothing could keep my enemies from banging at my door. No dead bolt was strong enough. I could hear them shouting on the other side to be let in. Who knows what they wanted-sex, warmth, company, or more. And I found more times than not, they could infiltrate my home with one sweep of the right word. One, “please forgive me” or a couple, “I love you’s.” Next thing I knew I was sitting on the couch with one of them. I was cooking for them. I was sleeping with them. The call was coming from inside the house.

The Art of Standing Still in a Spinning World
Everyday feels like a one minute hourglass. I’ve barely drunk my coffee and I need to be out the door to take the kids somewhere. There’s a few lines needed on the last of my poem, but I need to work. How desperately I want to romanticize my life, but when I look out of my window, the view is nothing but a huge brick apartment building right next to me. Brick walls and train tracks. A dog shits on the lawn, the cops bust a drug deal literally in my parking lot. So I found myself creating a world within my bedroom, hanging those stupid little fairy lights in the corner to give it some false sense of ambience. Plastering tarot cards on the wall in a desperate attempt of visual creativity.
