The Mouth of Hell
"Abandon hope, all ye who enter here..." My throat opens up into a cavernous tower keep, ascending into the shadow above. The spectral ghosts of condemned witches, or perhaps the ghastly, blood-thirsty revenants who became Dracula's brides, slowly descend the stone steps, diaphanous gowns wrapping their pale, delicate forms like spirit flowers tossed down the mouth of a well in the lower depths; carefully they descend, delicately, like angels; so as not to fall to one side, lest they plummet through the void and into the grinding mechanism of my teeth.

Time After Time
Time After Time (1979) is a movie that sees H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) chasing Jack the Ripper (David Warner) through ninety years via the famous Time Machine to San Francisco, circa 1979, where Wells meets and falls in love with thoroughly-modern Amy Robbins (Mary Steenburgen), who gets swept up in the dark drama unfolding between Wells and his Victorian nemesis.

The Curse of Dracula
The most brutal addiction...is life. True life. No matter how...lonely." --The Curse of Dracula (1979) The above may not be an exact quote, but it does give an example of the soulful, poetic titular bloodsucker played by the redoubtable Michael Nouri in the semi-serial (really miniseries) installment of 1979's Cliffhangers television anthology show, "The Curse of Dracula" Cliffhangers, which was a short-lived high-concept, high-production values show consisting of three cliffhanger serial pastiches (one being a take-off on the old sci fi western Phantom Empire, with Gene Autry, the other an action-crime drama called Stop Susan Williams!), each begun as if the chapter-play were already in progress. The series was developed by Kenneth Johnson, who would go on to spectacular success later with the alien invasion epic V, which spawned V: The Final Battle, and V: The Series, the last being short-lived. V had a massive following and a huge cultural impact, as well as blockbuster ratings.

Blood Diner
Some sage comic of the stand-up variety once observed that, if you slightly rearranged the letters in the title of the execrable Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty film Ishtar, you got the word "Shitar". Which sounds just as bad. I suppose you could pronounce it exactly as it is spelled, and it would sound like the word "shitter." Which is an apt enough description of where that particular movie belongs.

On the set of Ken Russell's Gothic. Sitting with the cast in a castle room, and someone somewhere in a room beyond, a ruined room, is weeping. I say "that one annoys me" to the assembled, but move forward through space and who knows time with my drawing pad.
