Daylight Savings Time is stupid. I don’t know a single person who likes it, myself included. In the fall, I love the extra hour of sleep, but abhor how the sun sets at 4:30pm and I feel like I’ve been plunged into a never-ending sea of darkness.

The front door to my apartment was ajar, causing me to stop in my tracks. Leah was pretty anal about keeping it closed and locked at all times, regardless of if we were home. “You never know when a rapist could be on the loose” she always said. That’s why I stopped short of walking through it, even though I could see a light on inside.

Are we defined by when we are born? Is a preemie who was supposed to be born two to three months later and spends the first few months of his/her/their life in an incubator going to have the same zodiac sign as a fully developed healthy baby who was born at the same time? Or would the preemie have a personality that reflects when he/she/they would have been born healthy?

“So when was the last time you saw him?” I looked up from my notes briefly to glance at Lisa. “Uh…when I was 7, I was playing outside and heard yelling in the house. He and my mom were arguing and he stormed out." She stared at her untouched coffee on the table in front of her, tracing the coffee shop’s logo on the side of the white mug. "My mom never told me what the argument was about, or anything else about him for that matter.”
