Renaissance Festival War Stories September 7-8, 2024
...Continued from weekend 3 Saturday was the 6th annual Un-Official Pride Day at The Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Nearly 1400 people rsvp'd to our Facebook event. It gets bigger each year and we are so glad to love and be loved in the communities: Renaissance and LBGTQIA+. Shops decked themselves out, acts wore their best rainbow, flag, or pride duds, and the patrons take their garb to the next level. While I'm glad to be the nexus of the event annually, I am not the true origin. PRIDE doesn't happen without all the people willing to be generous in a community to show who they are and will not be hurt or repressed for a safe love or lifestyle.

So Close, And So They Begin, (An Excerpt) . Content Warning.
He heard the sound, the loud, pained moan. He stopped scraping the tree bark he was collecting. "Hello?" He called. "S-someone there?" He heard another soft groan. He started walking in the direction. As he got closer, the groans turned to whimpers. They came into clear view of each other. He tucked his book into his pocket, and crouched down, meeting the wounded deer in the bear trap at eye level. "Looks like you got yourself into a bit of a pickle." He scooted himself a little closer. The doe didn't move. "That looks like it hurts pretty badly." She let out a little whimper. "I can help you with that." He inched a little closer, reaching into his other pocket, pulling out a vial. He broke the wax around the cork. The doe remained still. He crept closer and closer.

Continued from Weekend 2... When you work a muggle job during the week and a 10+ hour week during the three-day weekend, things can become blurry. You would think I could remember more over 30 hours of performing, but some how, I don't. But here's what I do recall and enjoy.

Renaissance Festival War Stories 2021. The Poisoned Pen Scroll. Content Warning.
If it's been said once, it's been said a thousand times. Costumes are not consent. I was very lucky this year. Our directors were adamant about our team having rope stanchions for social distancing between us and our audience. We masked up if we were in the crowds. We were taught, reminded, and had mandatory sexual harassment training. Things were not perfect. I was not perfect. But I consider myself incredibly lucky that I was never physically made uncomfortable or assaulted by a patron this year.

The Lost Scrolls of 2023. Content Warning.
Some stories don't make the original cut, those become The Lost Scrolls. Here are this year's... Any chance I get, I like making double entendre jokes (You had a roll in the grass with your friend Mary Jane?), Then playing innocent-stupid (How ever did you get the grass stains out?) High up on a hill...With that kind of elevation, you probably had quite the view!

The Lost Scrolls of Nestor & Tinka 2023
Photo by Joel Brueske Photography Cold heart / warm heart Sunday morning, Nestor and I had a chance to wander for a bit. He caught the attention of a woman on one of the rented motorized scooters. She had named her steed 'Coldheart.' We had a lovely chat with her. We made her laugh. We made an effort to admire her while making her feel welcomed and she told us how she appreciated it. If Nestor laid out some charm, I tried to lay it out thicker. I was not going to let him out-do me. He shook her hand and kissed the back of it, and so did I. We both shouted for her daughter when she told us the name. We helped reunite her when the opportunity presented itself. We gave the Lady Karen one hell of a morning.

...Continued from Weekend 6 The Sidequest Players was born of an idea, "What if we did a show from a place of love and kindness?" This was our last opportunity to make that magic. We leave it all in the lanes.
