Best Stuck in a Time Loop Films
I have to confess to something - I have never watched the original Groundhog day film. Which is incredibly ironic since I do have a thing for time loop films. There's something about watching a character relive a story on repeat, forcing them to reflect on their actions or relationships. Usually these moments are fleeting, but being stuck in the same loop of events allows for some beautiful character arcs - in drama and comedy.

V.C. Andrews' All That Glitters (2021) - Film Review
Never thought I'd say this, but this is the first time watching a V.C. Andrews adaptation I was rooting for the antagonist. With this my final Landry Saga review - yes, I watched these films slightly out of order - my sympathy for Ruby dried up completely in this one.

Raised amidst the privileged of New Orleans, Pearl (Laporte) aspires to become a doctor, but when one of her twin brothers has a serious unfortunate accident, Pearl's dreams are threatened and Ruby runs once again to the bayou; and when the other brother becomes dangerously ill, Pearl must journey to the backwaters to find her mother and uncover the mysterious secrets of her past.

Jory Marquet: The Moral Compass of VCA
It is easy to say that out of everyone in this messed up family across five books and four films, Jory Marquet is the one will the best head on his shoulders. He is the son of Cathy and Julian. Cathy named him Jory as "J" was for Julian and the "-ory" part was for her brother Cory, but unlike his abusive father or his emotionally unstable mother - Jory has a emotional maturity that many members of his family lack.

VCA Theory: Was Bart Foxworth Queer?
As I have previously tackled Corrine as the Evil Mother and Cathy as the Woman Scorned, one character within the V.C. Andrews notorious family was a bit of a question mark. When I first read Seeds of Yesterday, for several reasons I interpreted Cathy's second one - now the wealthy owner of the newly rebuilt Foxworth, ridiculously handsome, charming and athletic - as being more complex than first believed. Truthfully. when I first read the finale of the Dollanganger saga, I thought Bart Foxworth was bisexual or gay and there are actually elements of this book that lend into this theory of mine:

In the the final moments of the infamous Flowers in Attic, Cathy escapes the clutches of her evil grandmother and sadistic mother with her smitten brother and traumatised sister in tow - all carrying severe mental scares, but Cathy vows to get vengeance on her abusers.

Writing: The Evil Mother
Since the beginning of storytelling, one trope has been recognised through fairy tales into adult fiction - an Evil or Wicked Mother. A mother is one of the most central figures that a character can have growing up, and her influence can have an impact on that character even as an adult. If the character is lucky, that mother will be a loving one - but in many cases, The mother figure is truly evil in a traditional sense, and is one of the worst villains one can face, especially if one of the Heroes or Love Interests is one of her children (or if she's married into his or her family as a stepmother).

Noughts & Crosses: A BBC Radio Full-Cast Dramatisation - REVIEW
Playwright Janice Okoh's adaptation of Noughts & Crosses flows beautifully within the audio medium - her use of dialogue really demonstrates her ability to portray character's internal and external conflict without feeling like exposition. Every character interaction and narration was natural. bringing individuality to both protagonists' perspective on the world and events. Okoh's script captures the transition of adolescence and adulthood perfectly - her play tackled aspects of the novel which the TV series chose to leave out, this script relying on nuance and the effects on the characters in the aftermath of pivotal and devastating events. dealing with racism is shown through blatant and micro-aggressive discrimination that the Nought characters face. Okoh's adaptation of Blackman's novel is personally my favourite written to date, the translation from page to radio really works with this piece.

Growing up in the Twilight Era
Looking back, I'm surprised that the global phenomenon of Twilight initially passed me by. I actually had not heard of Twilight until 2008, when the film was just being released on DVD. Through classmates conversations, my knowledge of the story went as far as - a bland girl fancies a moody vampire, but gets caught in a love triangle with a muscle-head werewolf. That was it. I probably may not have even watched it, if not for my mother buying me a copy at our local Blockbusters' as a gift - anyone else remember Blockbusters? Good times. So with no knowledge or expectations, I decided to give this film a try.
