Of Passion and Pleasure
This past year has been an incredibly stressful one. And, yes, that is in comparison to the absolute and unforgiving hell-scape we all felt during 2020! That's because my dad passing away was only a small part of that equation, believe it or not. It was definitely the catalyst that seemed to start a horrifying downward, emotional spiral for me.

The Christmas Tree
I forgot just how big the stupid thing was - the old, faux tree stored away in my parents' garage. It took me forever to haul the damned thing from it's place in the loft, and even longer to prop it up into something that resembled a standing position. I'm sure if there'd been any onlookers they would've burst out laughing more than once as the plastic branches whacked me back and forth, refusing to come out of that beaten up old box.

My Cottage Industry (part 2)
Fun-fact about me: I did not take my first airplane ride until I was 19 years old. Both of my parents traveled at various times during their own careers, so the only context for air-travel I ever had (prior to experiencing it myself) was all based on what they could tell me. Dad was totally fine with it - nothing ever really seemed to phase him. Mom was fine only after take-off - the uncontrollable feeling of being thrust forward and up still puts her on edge.

Fey
Fun fact: I wrote this story almost five years ago this December, mainly because I really wanted to write a story about fairies. But not in the traditional way. Even as an adult I was (and am) still fascinated by old fairy tales - mainly because they are surprisingly more METAL than I expected. Anyway, this is essentially a very early story in my portfolio... so don't be too surprised if it reads that way, too, ha ha!

My Cottage Industry (Part 1)
If there's anything you should know about me, is that I am a big history-lover. And the subject doesn't really matter that much to me... I just love to study history! Even as a kid I could enjoy hours-worth of fare on the History Channel (before they started steering into the reality-TV-scene). Sometimes I would watch by myself and sometimes I would watch with my dad, especially if it was about WWII or the American Revolution (he was always particularly interested in Military History). One series we found together, and were surprisingly impressed with was a title that has gone of to have several different spin-offs: "The Men Who Built America."

Playmates
I originally wrote this piece as an exercise for myself. I was never all that interested in flash fiction until I starting writing again in 2018. But once I started, I realized just how much I really liked it and decided to keep practicing. There's nothing all that flashy or special about this one - I was just really proud of how it turned out! ___________________________________________________

Growing Up/Growing Old
Have you ever considered just how weird we human beings are? We spend about a third of our lives laying in bed asleep - we build advanced technologies just so we can sit on our butts all day long - and we consume literal poisons (tobacco, alcohol, Mountain Dew) just for shits and giggles…

The Tale of Bonnie Micks
This house contained a secret - or so Jenny had been told. She shined her flashlight all around, scaring herself for a moment after catching her pale reflection in a large cracked mirror. How did she get herself into these predicaments? Why was she always so eager to prove she wasn’t “Mrs. Chicken?”

Molly's Heart
For Mom __________________________________________________ “You’re still everywhere…” She wandered through the house, touching photos, adjusting knickknacks; solemnly cataloging a lifetime of memories, stories, and love. It was the love that once filled their home she missed most of all.

Finding Normal
I struggle with getting personal with others. A feeling I'm sure many, many people can relate to. And it doesn't really matter if it's with someone I have known my whole life, or with someone I'm meeting for the first time - I just struggle to get personal. Ever since my 31st birthday this past October, I've come to the conclusion that it's because of two primary reasons:
