A Merry Little Christmas: Chapter 1
They walked in silence as they neared the front yard, their arms full of plastic bags with toys hidden deep inside. Carmen had hoped a day of Christmas shopping would've been the perfect bonding experience with the her soon-to-be daughter. However, the 19-year-old co-ed clearly had other feelings.

Crash
Darkness faded as the sounds of the crash rang sharply through her ears. A thick fog seemed to be clearing and for the first time in what felt like forever, the girl was starting to see again. As she lifted her head she felt a sharp pain radiate down from her temple to her neck. She could feel the ground, cold and stiff, beneath her fingers, and, for no real reason, dug them weakly into the earth. Someone was calling her name, shaking her.

Forward
The girl in the photo is me… at least, according to A.I. Despite the fearful discourse surrounding AI and its ramifications, I actually find the concept to be fascinating. So much so that one night, while on Facebook, I started playing around with a few new AI generators they added to the system. The picture up above is the one (out of a few dozen) that struck me the most, only because she is the “me” I always wished to be. The “me” I imagined I would like one day. The “me” living the life I thought I would have. The perfect version of myself; the person I wanted to grow up to be.

The Secrets of Castile Caves
In the late spring of 1998, when I was a little more than eleven years old, I got myself into the worst trouble you could ever imagine: I fell down in abandoned cave. Well, no one could ever say I was the most graceful student there was (in fact, many people frequently went out of their way to tell me just the opposite). I was also never the most dedicated student either. I goofed off a lot, I slacked on my studies, I drove my teachers up-the-wall crazy with my antics (usually it was deliberate, but sometimes it was accidental).

W I T C H: Chapter 5
Nora sprinted all the way back to the hotel, not daring to look back. She didn’t stop running until she raced into the back entrance she’d left propped open. She leaned against the wall, panting heavily from her escape as sweat poured down her face.

Stairway
There once were two little boys who grew up not too far from my old neighborhood. We all went to the same middle school, but they were all grown up by the time I attended. Their exploits, however, had already become something of legend among the student body. One story in particular stands out above the rest and the two boys, Theo and Mike, always maintained that it was the complete and honest truth.

My Cottage Industry (part 7)
If there's anything I miss about full-time work, it's the consistency. I liked the face that, no matter what the day had in store, there would always be a paycheck waiting for me at the end of it all. Sometimes that paycheck was the only thing to keep me going through the drudgery of the day. On the flip-side, when you decide to set out and start a small business the exact opposite is true: if it's something you truly love doing, in spite of the drudgery, you never come to think of it as work... but a paycheck at the end of it all is never guaranteed.

W I T C H: Chapter 3
The Ironwood Art and History Museum wasn’t terribly impressive (not that she thought it would be). It certainly didn’t look like the place one would find a long-lost amulet. But then again, since when did anyone know they were in possession of a long-lost amulet? Typical for a bunch of ‘Normies’ - they never knew what they had until it was gone. It took everything she had to hide her growing impatience as Nora’s tour group suddenly stopped at another display case, lined with carved arrowheads and beaded artwork.

My Cottage Industry (part 5)
So at my last job, I only called in sick maybe a total of 3 or 4 times... I worked there for almost 8 years. One thing I've always been very relieved by (and sometimes proud of) is the fact that sickness has never really touched me or my family while I was growing up. As far as I know, I don't have any food allergies, I can penicillin whenever I do get pesky ear-infections (which is the one blight that has followed me since childhood!), and, as far as I know, we have relatively few family illnesses in my household.
