Our Pack. Top Story - August 2021.
My girlfriend and I came together ten years ago not knowing where our lives would take us. Never did either of us imagine the amount of fur we'd later surround ourselves with. Both of us had pets growing up and have a love for animals that runs deep. They are not just our pets, but our babies. The deal we make with them is very important to us. If you join our pack and share with us your unconditional love then we will provide for you all that we can and put your needs above our own. Our four dogs and two cats deliver on their promise with each passing moment and so do we. Let me tell you about them.

The Freedom of Working from Home
Sometimes it’s not the job that helps you impact the world, but sometimes it helps. Five months ago, I was working a job that was financially fulfilling, but emotionally draining. The ratio was no longer tolerable for me. I won’t go deep into it, but in the middle of a pandemic and at a time when my faith in my employer’s morality was at an all-time low, they announced our pay cuts. The lower pay rate was scheduled to begin on my first day back from a week’s vacation. I never came back from that vacation.

Happy Place
In case you don’t already know, the rules are different when you have enough money. My girlfriend tells people I’m an “Elite Concierge.” It’s a title she made up not knowing exactly what I do, but it does sound about right. You see, having tons of money, fame, or influence changes the way you live. I come from a rich family and learned this at a young age. My friends and I made a ton of mischief when we were young but never got into much trouble. As we grew up, the closer we got to trouble the better I got at getting out of it. Mom and dad’s money helped, at first, but then I’d be in trouble with them. So, I had to get better.

Date Night
Care for a journey? Separate from time and space, you and I can stroll through wherever and whenever we like. Let us begin on a young Earth. We sit peacefully on a stone spire. The feeling of warmth radiates around us from the molten magma below. We watch as great bubbles burst, sending rippling waves against the stone around them. We see the magma cooling as it recedes. Each wave leaves a piece of itself behind. We watch as land begins to form. Plates of stone and molten crust begin to hide the oceans of magma that cover the Earth. As the sun sets, we see a great blue ball racing across the sky. A blurry tail chases behind.

The Dome
It happened at exactly midnight. The power went out in our whole town. I live in a small, boring town, only a couple hundred people live here. So, it wasn't weird that so many came outside to see what happened and to check on their neighbors. None of us were expecting what we were about to see.

Black Hearts
Two bodies wash up on a sandy beach. It is the morning after a heavy storm and the air still smells of it. Their ship had been taken by the storm and these fortunate souls survived. One man coughs up seawater as he awakens. He is bald with unkempt, mangy mutton chops. Looking around he sees the other body beginning to stir. Their ragged clothes are waterlogged as they rise and approach one another.

The ticking of the clock drives me insane as I wait in the lawyers office. My mom passed and it’s time to hear the will. I’m sitting across from my two idiot, twin cousins. Tim and Tom are just a few months younger than me, but we were never friends. On either side of them are their parents my aunt Kat and her husband Mark. All four are short and round. Kat has always hated herself and has done much to look different, except exercise and diet. Her hair is dyed from black to blonde, but she’s not consistent enough to keep her dark roots hidden. Her skin is spray tanned and I think her lips have been done since I saw her last. Next to Kat is my uncle Edwin. Looking at he and I is like looking through time. I used a photo from his high school days as my senior photo and no one, except he and my mom, noticed. He’s tall, thin, and pale with dark hair. His is groomed while mine is a bit shabby. We are both wearing all black, as usual.
