Space debris, also known as space junk, is any man-made object in orbit around the Earth that no longer serves a useful purpose. This can include defunct satellites, spent rocket stages, and other debris that was generated by human spaceflight. There are millions of pieces of space debris orbiting the Earth, ranging in size from tiny flecks of paint to large pieces of defunct spacecraft.
