Meta AI is collecting your data
How much do you know about security and privacy on social media platforms? Let’s take Meta’s new Meta AI app as an example, which is one of the latest privacy disasters that affects anyone. Technology, society, and me
Chapter I When it all started This is not expected to be anything deep, profound, or anything like it. Since I usually write about technology news and try to add some sarcasm to make the reading a little bit lighter, today I decided to simply let my thoughts out in whatever order they choose and in any way they decide. I am writing this not as a draft but as my final unedited piece, because that’s how it’s intended to be. I will let this be a stream of consciousness and see where it leads me.

Tech news in a nutshell
It’s Friday again. I already got my media pass for this year’s Slush, and I am looking forward to it. If you missed it, I’ll link below. More news about that some other time. For now, here is your weekly sarcastically seasoned roundup of the top tech news from 21 to 27 June, 2025. Really, people, where are we going? From mass human layoffs to a bot being fired whilst another bot becomes the Coder in Chief of a company, I almost have no time to react fast enough to all what is happening. If I survive one more week, I’ll see you again next Friday. -Susan

Startups, investors, and the Northern magic of Slush
There are dozens of tech conferences every year. Some are glossy showcases. Others are networking marathons. But Slush, held in Helsinki every November, is something else entirely. It’s the only event I’ve attended for 17 consecutive years, and I can tell you, it never gets old; every year is different.

Lady bright
Alone, Lady bright Dreaming ghosts rest through the night Why art thou so right? ~~~ This Found Poem (Senryū) was inspired by Mother Combs Poe-Found June prompt challenge. The challenge asks for a 200-word poem. That’s too much of a challenge for me, so I created my own minimalist version. All the words I used in the Senryū can be found in The Sleeper by Edgar Allan Poe.

How technology, climate, healthcare, and society will change in the next 50 years
“The future has never been more uncertain.” -Susan Fourtané, science and technology journalist, Lux Ad Futurum ~~~ My Dad and I used to discuss technologies such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, artificial intelligence, new materials such as graphene and its applications and much more. Sometimes, he noted “I won’t be around, but good luck.” That was usually before we moved on to another topic or someone or something interrupted our little discussion moment. Many times I wondered why he consistently said “I won’t be around, but good luck.” He passed away three years ago. And now, I finally understand what he meant each time.

What I think about space tourism. Top Story - June 2025.
It’s Midsummer and it’s raining. It looks and feels like the start of winter already. Instead of sitting to contemplate how miserable I am feeling right now, I decided to read some news to find something worth complaining about? Why? I already told you why.

Midsummer in Finland
Midsummer Haiku: Bonfire rises Wildflowers crown pretty heads Daylight never ends ~~~ Midsummer I am spending Midsummer (called Juhannus, in Finnish) in Finland because Finland is the place to be in the summer. For someone who doesn’t tolerate heat weaves or anything above +20 celsius it makes sense. Forests and lakes and free wild berries and the Midnight Sun is pretty much all you really need to enjoy the summer.

Asteroid 2024 YR4
Fire tears the sky Stone breath from the silent void Earth holds its last breath ~~~ Author’s Notes: Asteroid 2024 YR4 was first detected on 27 December, 2024 by the ATLAS-CHL survey in Chile. Its size is approximately 40 to 90 metres in diametre. Early calculations suggested a 3.1% chance of impacting Earth on 22 December, 2032, marking it as one of the highest-risk asteroids ever identified. However, subseqent observations have effectively ruled out the possibility of a 2032 impact, deducing the probability to near zero.
