Shiftless
I couldn’t wait to clock off and go out with my friend. The last couple was still eating, and I was cleaning up another table when my phone vibrated in my pocket. I swatted the hair out of my face and went to grab my phone from my pocket, but someone’s hands were in the way. I tried to move, but they held me still. Great, that’s why I hated this job. I reached for the spray, but he held me tight enough that I couldn’t get enough wiggle room to grab the spray to defend myself.

The Old Warehouse
I was going to graduate this semester with my science degree. Paige was in her final year of studying architecture. I had taken her to the old, abandoned warehouse in my hometown to get a glimpse of the inside of it for her final paper. We were best friends since meeting each other in college and we had planned to celebrate our future careers while in my hometown.

The Wedding
Claudia stood before the empty barn. It was available for rent and in perfect time for her wedding! Hang a banner here below the second-floor loft and put a microphone there and the stage to the center of the dark room she thought to hereself. “We’d have to hang up some lights,” she told the real estate agent who was her best friend, “But it has the perfect rustic look that I imagined for my perfect wedding! Thank you so much!”

Karma
The grass waved as a gentle breeze ran through it filling the air with the fragrance of dandelions and the mossy smell of the oak trees in the distance. There was a tall young man standing in the middle of the small, empty field behind the small house dressed in dark yoga pants and an oversized black tee shirt. He was practicing his own form of meditation yoga. A girl had appeared behind him dressed almost exactly like him except for a gigantic grey sun hat. “Tommy!” she yelled after tackling him to the ground with a hug. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

The Blizzard Cabin
I can’t remember how we ended up here. “You forgot to fill up before leaving, huh?” Laura mocked me as we came to a stop in front of an old building. My old red Honda couldn’t handle the cold and I swear I checked the antifreeze before leaving for our last adventure before Laura’s wedding.

Martha and Carl
It was a magical dawn in rural Virginia when a black, brown, and white kitten jumped at Martha’s front door startling awake Martha in the big chair in her empty living room. Martha was an elderly woman with short, dark brown hair, frozen in a beehive with copious amounts of hair spray. Her light brown cataract-stricken eyes were lost without the thick framed black glasses she searched for in her chair before she gave up and stood up with her cane. She found her glasses on top of her chair and limped to the front door after putting them on. Expecting her hospice nurse, she opened the door and was delighted to see the small kitten at the doorstep.

Sophie's Stars
The stars shone extra brightly that night. Sophie stared in wonder out her bedroom window. The glass was nearly completely transparent from her mom cleaning it earlier as a treat. She nearly jumped out of her skin at the eerie sudden hooting of an owl. Man, I love this place!

Cai and Molly Davies
The bedroom was mostly white, an almost empty tiny room with a small bed with grey covers in the middle of the room and a bright white night stand on each side of it with a mirror was attached to the door. It was a stark contrast to the way Mildred dressed earning her the nickname, ‘Goth Mildred’. Her husband Cai Davies was always working and lived in his grey suit and thick eyeglasses. Cai towered over Mildred at 6’ 1” despite being in his 60’s. Mildred was only 5’ 3” and in her late 30’s. She had a slim figure, long black hair kept in pig tails, and a light bronze skin with green eyes. The fragrant of the freshly bloomed blue lilies scattered on the bed was overwhelming in the tiny room.

"Ugh… come on 9:30! Hurry up!" Alice whined staring at the clock above the desk in their room. "You not going to make it sooner? I don't even know why I'm going with you," Ben kicked at the blanket on his bed. They still looked a lot alike. Alice's hair was curly, and Ben's was straighter with a much shorter cut.
