The Slasher Called 2020
The scariest scenes don’t exist on a movie screen. There is no masked man, or doll, or homicidal maniac with a chainsaw, butcher knife, axe, or bladed glove. These pictures come from reality. Namely, from the year 2020. If ever there were a time to fear something, it would be now, but such fear can be fought.

Marine Corps Stories: Fit
The baby cooed. The mother named him Ares. They’d just met each other three months ago. Mother, Gunnery Sergeant Adelyn Reine picked up a thirty pound kettlebell. Ares gasped and clapped his hands. Abigail did six sets of ten repetitions of kettlebell lifting, like a suitcase in front of her face.

Candle
And it seems to me you lived your life/ Like a candle in the wind. -“Candle in the Wind” Elton John and Bernie Taupin The trunk rattled like the gasps of life from a dying man. Apparently, the driver Avion Fosterton hadn’t paid attention to his suitcases, and failed to secure them inside the vehicle. They knocked against each other down the road in the back of the car. The nighttime had finally found the city in the beginning of October. Fosterton had packed his car and traveled to Wilmington, Delaware from Sussex County to write about the city’s Carhartt Hotel, which was alleged to be haunted. Fosterton, an atheist, knew better. He knew ghosts only belonged in stories.

Macaroni and Please, May I Have Another Helping?
My dad has prepared Thanksgiving and Christmas meals ninety-nine percent of the time. The same goes for other holidays and Sunday evening meals, as well as meals throughout the week. On any given holiday, there is the main protein, the green sides and other trimmings, but nothing is more soulful and comfort-giving than his homemade baked macaroni and cheese.

Reason First: Is 50 Cent Right for Defending Eminem Against Lord Jamar?
Ultimate troll, 50 Cent bandied words at Lord Jamar over the latter legendary rapper's comments concerning Eminem. While some may call it “caping” for the white man, there is good cause that 50 engaged in a verbal sparring session on Instagram. 50 Cent signed an unprecedented at the time, one million dollar contract as a joint venture between Eminem’s Shady Records and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. Through years of falling out with the rapper Game, to Young Buck, and splitting ties with Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent and Eminem have remained tight. Together, the two men have earned the respect of most figures within the hip hop universe. That is, of course, except for Lord Jamar. He has gone on the record saying that black people don’t listen to Eminem’s music. But is this true? In the gym, as Lord Jamar has indicated, Eminem is not blasted through earbuds. What about Eminem’s Oscar-winning ode to overcoming adversity “Lose Yourself”? Does Jamar not know that African Americans get pumped up to the Recovery rapper? Is this true? On the excursion to the club, are black people not gearing up for a good night by listening to “Greatest” while wood grain grippin’? Don’t clubs still vibrate with the sound of “Shake That,” Eminem’s song with the late Nate Dogg and “Smack That” with Akon? 50 Cent is a master at challenging anyone who crosses him or his values. He goes on Instagram saying that Lord Jamar was already deceased and that Lord Jamar is no “Grand Puba” anyway. 50 Cent has spit venomous bars on tracks but his words on social media have just as much toxicity.

Ride Time: The Story about ‘The Star Report’
You’d buy your ticket, run through the empty space where the bars are not teeming with people, get on the ride, and strap in. The attendant would make sure you’re secure. In a COVID-19 world, this scene could play out in any amusement park that still wanted to acknowledge pandemic parameters, masks and sanitizing stations included. But this is just a metaphor for a YouTube show hosted by Troi “Star” Torain that just feels like a rollercoaster ride.

Marine Corps Stories: For the Love of the Gun
The wreath surrounding her rifle badge shone like fresh nickels from the mint. Her pistol badge told the same story, but only when she wore her service or dress uniforms. On the range, in her beloved cammies, Staff Sergeant Ruth Hazelton held the pistol in her hands. Sweat gathered at her temples while she aimed the weapon on the target and fired. The shots struck the target, each one in the center of the black.

Marine Corps Stories: PRASP
The newly minted Marines expected to be treated like less than nothing by anyone outside their family and friends. With all the graduation celebrations of the last few days, the heady sense had to level off in some way. The two privates of...other privates, Vernon Pattinson and Derio Sales, felt the heights of having endured thirteen weeks on Parris (Paradise) Island, and transformed into hardened killing machines. Instead, they acknowledged the sobering reality that they’d achieved the status of being virtually worthless, powerless, and the lowest of the low. They didn’t even have any chevrons on their sleeves.

The Happy Egoist: My Playlist for the Self
There is a playlist I love to hear. I love to hear it’s worth. It is the music of all my years, the sweetest collection of songs on Earth. Titled, “Me, Me, Me, Myself, Myself, Myself, Mine, Mine, Mine, My, My, My, I, I, I, Ego, Ego, Ego” it is a collection like none other. Now, you’re probably thinking that I’m the most narcissistic, vain, arrogant, and egotistical thing walking. Let me explain.
